Bible Texts: 2Cor.2:9-11, Rom.12:20-21, Matt.16:23, Matt.6:12, Matt.16:21-23, Lk.22:31, 1Jn.4:7-8, 1Pet.3:7, Is.59:1-2, 1Pet.4:7-8, Rom.5:5, Philp.2:13, Jn.15:5, Rom.12:2,21
Let’s begin today’s teaching by looking again into the word of God to find out what God has said about unforgiveness. My prayer for you is that you will be empowered by the Spirit of God to forgive when someone offends you.
As the good and godly husbandman, you must understand some truths about unforgiveness. Unforgiveness is a sin. Unforgiveness is satanic device to keep you in perpetual bondage. Unforgiveness is a tool your adversary, satan, uses to break your health and spiritual defences. Satan uses unforgiveness you habour in your heart to produce toxic in your body that will hurt your health badly. You must appreciate that as you lead your wife and children, they will do things that may hurt you or act in ways that you may be disappointed in. Regardless of the offence, God wants you to forgive them.
For to this end also did I write that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things. To whom ye forgive anything, I forgive also. For if I forgave anything to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; lest satan should take advantage of us, for we are not ignorant of his device ( 2Cor.2:9-11).
When Peter insulted Jesus Christ, Jesus never held it against him (Matt.16:21-23). He forgave Peter. And as Jesus prepares to go to the Cross, He said to Peter, “Peter, satan had sought to sift you, but I have prayed for you that your faith faileth not (Lk.22:31)”. That is the sign that He had truly forgiven him. Can you imagine Jesus going to the Cross with unforgiveness in His heart against Peter; He would have missed the plan of God for His life.
Every time you hold any grudge against your wife or children, you are opening the door for the devil to come into your home. If you find it very difficult to be kind to them as a result of their past behaviours and offences, then you have not truly forgiven them. If you withhold your goodwill from them because of the offence that they committed against you or any other person, you have not forgiven them indeed.
But how do I overcome unforgiveness and live to forgive my wife and children?
You overcome unforgiveness and live to forgive by the power of love, the God-kind of love (Rom.5:5, 1Jn.4:7-8).
Love covers the multitude of sin (1Pet.4:8)
If you walk in love towards your wife and children as God has commanded you, it would be easy to forgive and forget. And once you begin to operate at that level of God-kind of love, satan will have lost the power to make you begrudge your wife and children. And the attitude of forgiveness you extend to your wife and children will open for you the doors of answered prayers (Matt.6:11-12, 1Pet.3:7, Is.59:1).
You must pray to the Person of the Holy Spirit for supernatural empowerment to walk in forgiveness.
And hope maketh not ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us (Rom.5:5)
Jesus says that without Him you can do nothing (Jn.15:5). The Bible also says that it is the Lord God who empowers you to will and do of His good pleasure (Philp.2:13). As you engage the weapon of prayer to secure supernatural empowerment to live in love and forgiveness, you are able to overcome offences with good (Rom.12:21).
God wants you to be like Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, who while we were yet sinners He died for us and forgave us of all our trespasses. You can be like Jesus Christ and walk in forgiveness towards your wife and children.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, I declare the antics of satan null and void in my life.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, let Your love that overcomes all sin, flood my heart continually.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me a heart to forgive, forget the offences of my wife and children and empower me to love my wife and children truthfully, joyfully and heartily.
FAITH CONFESSION
I overcome the satanic device of bitterness, hatred and unforgiveness and put on the garment of mercy, forgiveness and love because I am the godly husbandman to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
