Yesterday, by the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, we understood the importance of following after the footsteps of Jesus Christ so that our wife, children and others can follow after us.
Today, let us consider what you and I must do with the resources God has given to us and we shall be focusing on Luke Gospel chapter 19 and verses 11 through to 26. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that you will not misuse the resources God has given to you. Amen.
The teaching of Jesus Christ in Luke chapter 19 and verses 11 to 26 is about a landowner who gives resource in equal proportion to three sets of people. Each one is supposed to trade with the seed that has been entrusted to them by the landowner and produce results. While two persons produce results by putting their resources to good use, the other person produce no results. When the landowner requests for accountability from the three managers, he is pleased with two and unhappy with the one. He increases the resources of the two managers and collects from the third the resource has given because he has not made good use of it.
What lessons can you and I as husbandmen learn from this teaching, knowing the responsibility we have in leading and nurturing our wife and children in the way and admonition of the Lord?
The first lesson is that everything that you have has been given to you by God. The word of God says that no one receives anything except it be given to him by God (Jn.3:27). Secondly, everything you have is a seed or resource. Your wife is a resource. Your child (ren) is a resource. Your time is a resource. Your money is a resource. Your skill is a resource. Everything and anything about you is a resource. This means that when you put your resources to good use, it produces more fruits. Thirdly, the receiver of the resource has the personal responsibility to trade with it in order for it to produce (Gen.1:26-28). If he doesn’t do anything about the resource, he has denied it the capacity to translate its potentials to results.
God has entrusted His resources into your hands to do something positive about them. If you don’t like what you see in your wife and children, then it is your fault and not theirs (Deut.6:7-9, 1Pet.3:7, Eph.6:4).
See what the word of God says about the husbandman who did not broker his resource (children) productively.
For I (God) have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth because his sons made themselves vile and he restrained them not (1Sam.3:13)
So how do I make good use of the resources God has given to me?
The first thing to do is to understand the original plan of God for the resources he has given to you. Your wife has been given to you by God for a purpose (Eph.5:25-29). There is something that God wants to achieve in your life and the life of your wife (Ecc.4:9-12). God has given you children because there is something He wants to achieve on the earth through them (Ps.127:3-5). Secondly, you must learn to travail in intercession by praying for your wife and children as well as other resources so that you can be empowered by the Spirit of God to make good use of them and be productive (Gal.4:19, Jas.1:5, Philp.2:13, Jn.14:26, Rom.9:16, Ecc.9:11).
And as you make good use of the resources God has given to you, you will be the first person to enjoy the fruits therefrom (2Tim.2:6).
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from foolishness and fear.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to make the resources You have given me profitable and productive.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to keep making good use of Your resources and let them continue to bear good and godly fruits.
FAITH CONFESSION
God has made me a good manager of His resources and I have received power from Him to make all He has given to me productive and profitable because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
