Bible Texts: Mk.9:50, Matt.5:14-16, Rom.12:2, Jn.5:39, Rom.12:21, 2Tim.2:15, Mk.9:29, Gal.4:19, 2Cor.10:4, Heb.11:32-33, Am.5:15
Salt is good, but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another (Mk.9:50)
Salt is one of the most valuable ingredients in life, particularly food preparation. Salt gives taste to food. It is also used for preservation. This is why in Mark chapter 9 and verse 50, the word of God says that salt is good. That is who you are.
As the husbandman, you are salt. Infact, Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, describes you as the salt of the earth.
Ye are the salt of the earth (Matt.5:13)
Your life and conduct must give good and godly taste. Your life is designed to add flavour to your wife, children and the world. As the good and godly husbandman, you no longer live for yourself again but for the blessings of your wife, children and the world. Your name, your words and your relationships should inspire, motivate and empower your wife and children and the people around you to want to become the best of God.
So, the question that you should ask yourself is this. Do you have salt in yourself? Are you indeed, salt? Am I a blessing or a burden?
In our main text today, Jesus says, salt is good, but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves and have peace one with another (Mk.9:50). God ordains your life to be an inspiration. Your life must inspire your children and wife unto godliness and good works (Matt.5:16). Your children should see you as the canvass on which to paint the glorious pictures of their lives. Your wife should see you as her mentor. Your life must reflect the image and likeness of Jesus Christ.
Now, how do I have salt in myself and be a good and godly taste to others?
The first thing you must and continue to do is to open your heart to Jesus and let Him fill you with His life through His word (Jn.5:39, 2Tim.2:15, Rom.12:2). The more you allow His word to have His way inside of you, the more of His life you will contact and consequently your life will be renewed by the washing of the word of God (Rom.12:1-3).
Secondly, you must, on a daily basis, confront the force of carnality by the force of spirituality.
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21)
A lot of the times as husbandmen, we walk in spiritual pride and carnality, knowingly or unknowingly. On a daily basis, we are confronted with the choice to live either spiritually or carnally. We are faced with the decisions to either become salt or lose our saltiness. But as the husbandman whom God has called to be good and godly ambassador to his wife, children and on earth, you must live pure and holy life. You must be spiritual. This is why the Scripture in Romans chapter 12 and verse 21, teaches that you must be intentional, working with the Person of the Holy Spirit to overcome evil tendencies with good.
Thirdly, you must contend for and maintain your saltiness by the forces of prayer, fasting and faith (Gal.4:19, Mk.9:29, Heb.11:32-33). These three forces are required for you to become salt and be salt indeed to others.
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but they are mighty through the pulling down of strongholds (2Cor.10:4)
There is a contention in the realm of the spirit between good and evil which is visible in the world today. But if you must overcome the influences of satan, sin and the world, you must engage the spiritual weapons of prayer, fasting and faith. These forces empower you to dominate all forms of ungodly attraction and attitude and make you to walk in honour, righteousness, good and godliness (Am.5:15).
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill my heart with your life and let it gain root downward.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, destroy the power of self in me and sinful influences in and around me.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, let my life so shine before my wife, children and the world and let it bring You glory.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have the life of Christ and His Spirit in me and I am adding value and flavour to my wife, children and the world and preserving the mandate of God for my life because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
