BE ON THE ALERT AND BE WATCHFUL

We are in the last days. The times are perilous and dangerous, where satan, sin and the works of darkness seem to be on the increase. The husbandman is losing his passion for his mandate to be good and godly. He is losing his sheep and sheepfold. Divorce, immorality and all forms of ungodliness have become an acceptable norm. This is not what God has ordained for the husbandman from the beginning (Matt.19:7-8). And this is why you and I are reminded by the word of God that, we must be on the alert spiritually and be watchful physically.

Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary, the devil as a roaring lion, walking about, seeking whom he may devour (1Pet.5:8) KJV

The Message Bible translation puts it this way.

Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The devil is poised to pounce and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up (1 Pet.5:8) MSG

As the husbandman, you must recognize that you are the shepherd. And as the good shepherd, you must be vigilant and keep watch over your life and the lives of your wife, children and home. The devil is looking for ways to make you slip into drunkenness, adultery, bitterness, unforgiveness, hatred, malice, and all forms of spiritual complacency and immorality. His ultimate aim is to destroy your glorious heritage in Christ Jesus. You must resist his tricks and attractions and stop his manipulations (Heb.11:32-34)

When you strike the shepherd, the sheep will scatter (Zech.13:7).

You must understand that when you fall, satan is happy. He is even happier when your fall leads to the scattering of your wife, children and sheepfold. Jesus speaking said, they are like sheep without shepherd (Mk.6:34). Satan is your enemy and the assignment he wants to fulfill if you let down your guard as the good shepherd is to kill, to steal and to destroy your life, your relationship with your wife, children and your home (Jn.10:10). So, just like satan took the first husbandman off guard, he also wants to pounce on you and mess your glorious destiny up, if you are not on your guard (Gen.3:3-10).

But how do I remain watchful and be alert so that I do not fall and allow satan, sin and the world to have their way in my life as I lead myself, wife and children?

You live daily like a soldier.

Whom resist steadfast in faith (2Pet.5:9a)

It is natural for a soldier to be ever ready for war. So, he is prepared mentally and physically too. You have the weapons of warfare provided by God for your victory (Eph.6:14-19). You have the word of God, the name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus, the communion, the anointing of the Holy Ghost, the shield of faith, the weapon of prayer and fasting. These are weapons you must be familiar with so that you can use them effectively for your victory.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, open the eyes of my spirit to see beyond every offer and suggestion.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of discernment.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of faith to stand against satan.

FAITH CONFESSION

I resist steadfastly satan and his offers by the word of God and by faith because that is what empowers me to remain the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
