WRESTLING THE REAL ENEMY

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Jn.10:9-11, Est.7:6, 1Tim.5:14, 1Pet.5:8, Lk.18:1, Mk.9:29, Rev.12:10, Matt.16:22-23, Gal.4:19, Eph.2:2, Eph.6:12

Yesterday, I was invited to speak at a wedding shower. The couple would be getting married in a few days time and so the mother of the bride organized something like a send forth for her daughter. I focused on the husbandman because the gavel, which is a symbol of authority, is in his hands. How he uses it and what he does with it will define the success or failure of his family. What I told the husbandman is summed in below.

As the husbandman, you must understand that life is a battle field and your journey to becoming the good and godly husbandman comes with its challenges. Satan, sin and the world will contend with your desire and pursuit to live the good and godly life as the man, husband and father. So, your real enemies are not your wife or children. Your adversaries are not your wife or children. Whatever you see happening or coming from your wife and children that appears as if they are intended to hurt you is instigated by an invisible force, and that is what you must deal with.

Wherein in time past, ye walked according to the course of this world according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience (Eph.2:2).

Remember the encounter Jesus Christ had with one of His disciples.

And Peter took him (Jesus) and began to rebuke him (Jesus), be it far from thee, Lord, this shall not be unto thee. But he (Jesus) turned and said unto Peter, get thee behind me satan. Thou art an offence unto me……..(Matt.16:23)

This disciple began to misbehave before Jesus. Jesus knew where the misbehavior was coming from. Jesus dealt with the spirit influencing his wrong attitude.

Satan came but to steal, to kill and to destroy….(Jn.10:10)

The ultimate purpose of satan, sin and the world, is to steal the peace and friendship you are enjoying with your wife and children, kill the joy that fills your home and destroy your home. Whatever you notice about your wife and children that is ugly and ungodly is coming from the devil. It is spiritual corruption. You must fight the forces of satan, sin and the world rather than fight your wife and children.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Eph.6:12)

Physically and emotionally abusing your wife and children and denying them of your good benevolence is not the solution. God has ordained your home and family to be a garden of honour and blessing. So, your fight is not against your wife and children but against those forces influencing them to misbehave.

But how do I wrestle and overcome the forces influencing the misbehavior of my life, wife and children?

You engage the spiritual weapon of the word, prayer and fasting (Mk.9:29, Lk.18:1, Gal.4:10). You also engage the weapon of the blood and name of Jesus Christ. You engage the weapon of faith in God and His word (Heb.11:32-33).

Take authority over the forces of darkness trying to defile your life, your mandate and the lives of your wife and children. That is your gateway to remaining the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to deal with the spiritual forces of satan, sin and the world.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, open my eyes to see the strongholds of the enemy and empower me to break it.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live the supernatural life as I lead my life, wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I exercise my authority in God over the influences of satan, sin and the world and enthrone the perfect will of God for my life to fulfill my mandate as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
