SUMMING IT UP BY THE WORD OF GOD

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Philp.4:6-8, Gen.2:14, Col.3:19, Eph.6:4, Deut.6:7-9, Is.61:9, Matt.5:14-16, Gal.4:19, Rom.5:5, Eph.5:25-28, Ps.1:1-3, Ps.119:105

If you are asked to measure yourself as the husbandman, what measuring standards would you employ? What would be the summary of your life as the man, husband and father? This is because questions like these help you and I to continually appraise ourselves to see if we are doing what God commands us to do as the good and godly husbandman and further helps us to amend our ways and adjust our thoughts and action.

The word of God has giving you and I the summary of how to measure our life as the husbandman.

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies. (Philippians 4:8-9)

Now let us examine a few Bible passages and use them to measure your life as the godly husbandman to see if your action and responses measure to the scale mentioned in Philippians chapter 4 and verse 8.

And the Lord took the man and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it (Gen.2:14)

The will of God for you is to work with your hands and minds. God is a worker. Jesus Christ is also a worker. God wants you to work to keep your home and provide for your sheep-wife and children. Can you say that you have worked diligently to protect your sheepfold? Can you also say that you have truthfully engaged your hands and minds to earn income and provide for your wife and children? You must come out of any form of excuse. You must break the ice. This is what the Bible says about work and its consequences.

He that does not work must not eat (2Thess.3:10)

So, are you working, earning a living that provides, shelter, education, food and clothing for yourself, your wife and children? Or it is your wife that has taken your God-ordained responsibilities?

Husbands love your wife and be not bitter against her (Col.3:19)

Do you love your wife? Have you demonstrated the character of the love of Jesus Christ? (1Cor.13:4-9). Do you still hold bitterness and unforgiveness against your wife in your heart? Do you still wish you never married your wife? You must understand that God expects you to love your wife as Christ has loved the church (Eph.5:25). You must also understand that you are to serve the interest of your wife and children the same way Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, served us. You have the mind of Christ. You can truly love your wife as Christ has loved the church (Rom.5:5).

And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4)

How much godly influence and character do you exert on your children to the end that they become vessels of honour? How much time investment have you made in the lives of your children? Has your life model the type of life you want your children to emulate? The perfect will of God for your children is in Isaiah chapter 61 and verse 9.

And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles and their offspring among the people, all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the Lord hath blessed (Is.61:9)

On the above three covenant responsibilities as the husbandman, measure yourself because that is the proof of your desire and commitment to become the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me the good and godly example in all that I do.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live out Your nature through Jesus Christ..
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, let the word of my mouth, the meditation of my heart and the conduct of my life conform to Your word.

FAITH CONFESSION

I use the word of God as a measuring scale to measure what I think and do because that is the only way I can grow up to function and live the life of the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
