Bible Texts: Pro.23:26, Ps.51:10,17, Matt.15:18-20, Mk.7:6, Heb.10:22, Rom.12:1-3, Pro.4:19-21, Matt.5:14-16, Gal.4:19
As husbandman, who wants to become good and godly, what do you think God wants from you? Is it your money, fame, fortune or prestige? None of these matters to God much more than your heart which is the centre of your will, emotion and thought. So, what does God want from you? Let’s see it.
My son, give me thine heart and let thine eyes observe my ways (Pr.23:26)
God is as interested in your heart as He is in your finances, character, charisma, conduct and reputation. God wants you to give Him your heart because the quality of your heart influences the quality of your conversation and relationships. So if your heart is right, your conduct will also be right because out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.
As the husbandman, you must realize that the totality of your action, whether good or bad is as a result of the state of your heart. Read what Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman says.
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart, and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things that defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands defileth not a man (Matt.15:18-20)
But why does God want me to give Him my heart?
God wants your heart so that He can feed it with graceful seeds that will mould you to become the good and godly man, husband and father. God wants your heart so that He can whisper to you His wisdom on how to respond to issues concerning your life and home without cracking the wall and destroying the family. God wants your heart so that He can clean you up from every form of filthiness so that you can become a vessel of honour.
However, for you to give your heart to God, you must accept that your heart needs God.
I stand at the door and knock, if any shall open, I shall come and sup with him (Rev.3:20)
You must recognize that God will not force Himself on you. You have to willingly open the door of your heart and invite Him to come in.
If thou be willing and obedient, thou shalt eat the fruit of the land (Is.1:19)
You must also be ready to do what He says and the instructions He gives to you as you walk the path of the man, husband and father.
God always wants the best for you, and so giving Him your heart and allowing Him to have His way in all that you as it concerns your thought, action, decision and conduct is always profitable to your life as the husbandman (Jer.29:11).
As the husbandman, you cannot be better than the quality of what is in your heart. So, as you give God your heart, He will help you to reorder your thoughts, words, actions and conduct to make them fit for yourself and for the good of the kingdom of God and for your wife and children thereby making you the good and godly husbandman, bringing glory and praise to Jesus Christ.
