ALWAYS WATCH AND PRAY

Bible Texts: Mk.14:38-39, Jn.14:26, Philp.2:13, Eph.1:18, Lk.18:1, Matt.6:13, Gal.4:19, 1Jn.5:17, 1Jn.4:6, Rev.12:10

Prayer remains an indispensable weapon in your journey to becoming the good and godly husbandman. As the husbandman, you must understand that there are so many landmines that satan, sin and the world have set for you so that you fall. These landmines include sexual immorality, hatred, malice, envy, bitterness, unforgiveness, bad will, busyness, and so much more. It is for these temptations that the word of God admonishes you to watch and pray.

Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready but the flesh is weak. And again he went away and prayed and spake the same words (Mk.14:38-39)

As you lead your life, wife and children, challenges will come that will test your readiness to forgive, to walk in love in all godliness. So, if you want to be battle-ready for victory as the good and godly husbandman, you must watch and pray.

Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman says,

Men ought to always pray and not faint (Lk.18:1)

If you do not want to fail and fall into temptation, pray always and be watchful.

There are two prayers you must pray to enjoy God’s help to be watchful and strong. The first is to ask God to give your hearing ears and seeing eyes. In Ephesians chapter 1, the Scriptures say, I pray that your eyes of understanding be enlightened…..(Eph.1:18). When your eyes and ears are opened, you are able to see through the tricks of satan, sin and the world, and hear the whispers of the Person of the Holy Spirit on what to do and not to do. In John chapter 14, the Word of God says that God will send the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, who will teach you all things…..(Jn.14:26).

The second prayer is to ask God to empower you to overcome the temptation to act contrary to His perfect will for you as the good and godly man, husband and father. The Bible speaking says

It is God who worketh in you power both to will and do his good pleasure (Philp.2:13)

Without the help of God, you will continue to fail and fall in your quest to become the good and godly husbandman because without Jesus Christ, you can do nothing (Jn.15:5). A lot of times, there is the willingness in you but doing what God commands you is always a struggle. But when you ask God for His help, He will help you to do His perfect will.

The call to being the good and godly husbandman is to be like Jesus Christ. God wants you to reflect the nature and character of the Person of Jesus Christ at home and in the market place of life. But you must recognize that satan, sin and the world will contend with your glorious heritage as the good and godly husbandman, hence you must always watch and pray. You must be determined to live your life in the fullness of God’s instructions for you as the good and godly man, husband and father.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me hearing ears and seeing eyes over the issues of life.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from temptation, satan, sin and world.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of grace and supplication to continually be on my watch tower as the man, husband and father.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have power with God and I continually watch and pray so that I can become all that He wants me to be as the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
