Bible Texts: Ps.23:1, Dan.6:1-10, Matt.6:22, Lk.18:1, Matt.6:33, 2Tim.2:15, Deut.30:19, Job 31:1, Gen.14:23-24, Jos.24:15
One very important lesson every husbandman must learn is that the choices he makes determine the outcomes he gets. And so he must be very careful of the choices he makes hence we shall be considering the power of choice by looking at the character of the husbandman, Daniel.
Now Daniel when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down in his knees three times that day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days (Dan.6:10)
During the reign of king Darius, some people planned to stop Daniel from praying to God. These people influenced the king to make laws that forbid people from praying. The plot was targeted at Daniel, who prayed as a lifestyle. Daniel, having seen the law passed by the king, had a choice to make-either to pray to his God or not to pray. But he chose the former-he prayed to his God. The rest of the story was that God was honoured in the land and the people feared God.
As the husbandman, you must continue to make choices that will move you closer to becoming the good and godly man, husband and father. Your choices must be in line with the commandments and instructions from the word of God. You must make a firm decision to make the word of the Lord to have the final say over and above everything else in your life as you make your choices.
But how do I make my choices so that they agree with the principles of the word of God?
Firstly, you must weigh the options available and match them one by one against what the word of God says. Secondly, you must ask yourself tough questions. Will the choices I make compromise my personal values as provided for in the Bible as the good and godly man, husband and father? Thirdly, you must count the cost, looking at the consequences and see if it is worth it. Fourthly, you must then decide if your choices are consistent with the word of God. If the choices you want to make doesn’t fit into the principles of Scriptures, don’t make the choice and don’t act on it.
You and I as good and godly husbandmen must give and continue to give attention to studying our personal Bibles so that we can learn of God and what He is saying to us and allow the word of God to guard and guide the choices we make. This is what you and I must do daily in our journey to becoming the good and godly husbandman (Ps.23:1).
