Bible Texts: Pro.15:13, Lk.4:18, Pro.17:22, Pro.12:25, Zech.4:6, Philp.4:6, 1Thess.5:16-18, Ps.23:1, Philp.4:19, Is.41:10-14, Eph.5:25-29, 1Tim.5:8, 2Thess.3:10
Someone walked into my office yesterday and asked if I am not feeling the heat. Initially I did not understand what he meant but later I understood that he was referring to the numerous economic challenges in the country. I smiled and told him that I am not feeling the heat.
I have observed that one important area of the husbandman that the devil attacks is his spirit man. The devil puts the husbandman under pressure and makes him feel broken and defeated. The devil blinds the husbandman from seeing reasons to be grateful. All of these attacks is to break the spirit of the husbandman which consequently leads to depression. And if the spirit is broken, it leads to high blood pressure and eventual death. This is why the Bible has this to say about the importance of being cheerful and guarding your heart from being broken.
A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken (Pro.15:13)
It is true that so much is expected of you as the good and godly man, husband and father (Jn.10:10, Eph.5:25-29, Col.3:19, Eph.6:4, 1Tim.5:8, 2Thess.3:10). The stakes for being the good and godly man, husband and father are high. Things may not have worked out as you had planned. It may appear as if all doors are shut against you and there seem to be no way forward for you. But whatever the case may be, make a choice to be thankful and do not let not your spirit man be broken.
A merry heart doeth good like medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones (Pro.17:22)
The moment your spirit man is broken, it affects your physical and mental disposition. It affects the state of your health and may eventually lead to death.
Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop, but a good word maketh it glad (Pro.12:25)
Another reason why you must not allow the sorrow of heart is because it makes you lose the power to move ahead and forward as the man, husband and father.
So, as the husbandman, you must understand that you have everything to lose when your spirit is broken.
Therefore, the way out is for you to have a cheerful heart.
Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God (Philp.4:6)
You must learn to always give thanks to God even for the life that you live. You must learn to live a life of gratitude. You must learn to be hopeful in God and His word as your journey through life.
Remember this truth always. God did not make you the husbandman to kill you. His intention for you is to bless you and make you a fit and proper vessel of honour as the man, husband and father (Jn.10:10). So, let the joy of the Lord become your strength and be thankful to God for who He is and for what He can do for you, with you and through you.
