GAIN THEIR HEARTS, BE THEIR LIFE

Bible Texts: Rom.15:1-6, Pro.23:26, Ps.34:14-15, Pro.20:12, Gen.12:2, Matt.5:14-16, Jn.3:16, Pro.4:23

In Proverbs chapter 23 and verse 26, the Scripture says that God demands that you give Him your heart because if God can have your heart, He gives you access to the deep things of the Spirit which empowers you to function maximally as the good and godly man, husband and father.

In the same vein, if you want to enjoy harmonious relationship with your wife and children, you must find out what you must do to gain their hearts because if they can give you their hearts, you will have access to the deep things of their life.

Now, how do you gain their hearts? Romans chapter 15 gives guidance.

The first thing you must and continue to do for them is to let what concerns them take priority over your self interest.

We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves (Rom.15:1)

You can gain the hearts of your wife and children by living sacrificially. This means that they take first place, a case of more of them and less of you.

The second step you must take to win their hearts is to intentionally add value to them.

Let each of us please his neighbour for his good, leading to edification (Rom.15:2)

How have you helped to improve the lives of your wife and children? How have you contributed to their growth, development and transformation? You are the salt in their lives and it is your saltiness that makes you a valuable asset to them and gives you the key to access their hearts.

Thirdly, you must take the attitude of a student who wants to learn.

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning that through the patience and comfort of Scriptures might have hope (Rom.15:4)

There are times, I listened to my wife and children explain some issues to me and I pick some valuable lessons from what they told me. This attitude makes it easier for them to listen to me when I counsel them and makes them reveal to me what their thoughts are.

Finally, you must seek and ensure peaceful and harmonious relationship exists between you and your wife and children.

Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus (Rom.15:5)

It is in the atmosphere of peace and harmony that your relationship with your wife and children can flourish and this is what motivates them to pour out their hearts to you.

What goes on in the hearts of your wife and children are the essence of their living. If you can reach to their hearts, you can make all the good and godly difference that will help them become vessels of honour and a blessing to you.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live a sacrificial life as I lead myself, wife and children.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to add value to my life and the lives of my wife and children.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to be attentive to the advice and corrections from my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I give priority to what concerns my wife and children and I take delight in living a selfless life for them because that is what motivates them to give me their hearts and makes me add value to their lives as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
