KEEPING THE COMMANDMENTS LEADS TO ABUNDANT LIFE

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Pro.3:1-2, Deut.28:1, Gen.6:3, 1Jn.5:3, Ps.91:16, Job 42:17, Ps.1:1, Gen.18:19, Gen.17:1, Col.3:19, Eph.6:4, 1Tim.5:8-10, 2Tim.2:15, Lk.18:1, 1Cor.13:4-8

My son, forget not my law, but let thine heart keep my commandments; for length of days, and long life and peace, shall they add to thee (Pro.3:1-2)

There is an important lesson you and I must learn as the husbandman. And that is what the word of God is telling us in Proverbs chapter 3 and verses 1 to 2. The Scripture says that there are commandments God has given which governs the husbandman as he performs his covenenat responsibilities as the man, husband and father. God has a word for you as the man, husband and father. And it is the word of God that guides and influences your thoughts, actions and responses. These commandments are meant for the husbandman to obey completely and not partially (Deut.28:1).

What happens if you keep the all the commandments of God for you as the man, husband and father?

But let thine heart keep my commandments; for length of days, and long life and peace, shall they add to thee (Pro.3:2)

Keeping God’s commandments leads to additions, and one of it is that you enjoy length of days.

This means that you will live long and fulfill the number of your days on earth (Gen.6:3, Job.42:17, Ps.91:16). God wants you to live long long but you have a role to play in the plan. God commands you to live joyfully with the wife of your youth and avoid all appearances of sin, yet you continue to engage in adulterous relationships and in the process you contract diseases and viruses that will lead to your ill-health and eventual death (Pro.6:23-26). There is a sad story of a medical doctor who was sentenced to life imprisonment by the courts because he abused and molested his wife’s niece sexually. There are so many actions you must never take otherwise, your spirit, soul and body will be negatively affected and lead to untimely death.

The second addition which flows from the first is that you enjoy a peaceable and quiet life. For instance, you are not afraid when you are falsely accused of any wrong doing. You are not worried or anxious if you accidentally leave your phones at home or give your or children access to it. You are not always thinking of how to cover your deceitfulness either at work, at home or in your relationships. Your openness is because you are doing what is right according to the commandments of God. That is the way to go.

For this is the love of God that we keep His commandments and His commandments are not grevious (1Jn.5:3)

The commandments of God for your role as the man, husband and father is to make you the good and godly husbandman. They are for your blessings. They are for your freedom from quilt, shame and reproach. Therefore, keep the word of God in the midst of your heart and let them not depart from your mouth and eyes because they are life to you and health to all your flesh (Pro.4:20-25).
