THE VIRTUES OF THE GODLY HUSBANDMAN

Spread the love

Bible Texts: 2Pet.1:5-11, Matt.5:14-16, Heb.11:6, 2Tim.2:15, 1Tim.3:2, 1Cor.13:13, Gen.42:18, 2Cor.4:18, 1Cor.9:27, Job 31:1

As the husbandman who wants to become the good and godly man, husband and father, there are biblical demands that you must have and live. The Scriptures call it the godly virtues and just like Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman says, these virtues are what you must show forth in your relationship with your wife, children and in the market place of life (Matt.5:14-16).

Now, what are these virtues that you must have and manifest if your claim to be the good and godly husbandman is real and genuine?

The answer is found in 2nd Peter chapter 1 and verse 1 through to verse 11. I encourage you to please, study the Bible passage and meditate on it until it becomes real to you (Jos.1:6-9).

These are the virtues from 2nd Peter chapter 1, verses 1 to 11

The first virtue is faith in God and His word.

Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Heb.11:6).

The second virtue is the principles by which you live your life, which is derived from the word of God.

I have made a covenant with my eyes that I will not look to a maid…(Job 31:1)

The third virtue is knowledge of the word of God in you. You must know what God wants and upholds it. And this is why you must have your own personal Bible and study it for yourself.

Study to show thyself approved as a workman who is not ashamed of the gospel but rightly dividing the word of truth (2Tim.2:15)

The fourth virtue is self-control. This has to do with how you are able to put your emotions and desires under control. You must be able to control your appetite for food, position, power, sex and your anger.

I bring my body under subjection (1Cor.9:27)

The fifth virtue is perseverance. This has to do with you patiently standing for what is right from God’s word, regardless of the present circumstances or pressure.

We are not moved by what we see or hear but by what the word of God says (2Cor.4:18)

The sixth virtue is godliness. This implies that you are filled with the Spirit of God which reflects in you living a godly life.

I fear God (Gen.42:18)

The seventh virtue is kindness.

He must be given to hospitality (1Tim.3:2b)

You must be caring, reasonable and warm towards your wife, children and those around you. You are not an aggressor. You are a loving and warm leader to everyone around you.

The eighth virtue is love. That is where you climb to see the beauty of your calling as the good and godly husbandman.

The greatest of them all is love (1Cor.13:13).

Your calling as the husbandman is a glorious ministry. Give it your all and watch your life enjoy the peace, joy and strength of God that exceeds all understanding
