Bible Texts: Mk.13:36-37, Am.6:1, 2Cor.5:17, Jn.3:3-4, Pro.4:23, Ezk.2:2, Pro.23:7, Matt.6:22, Hab.2:1, 1Pet.5:8
Praise be to Jesus Christ our Lord who causeth us to triumph always. Today is the 10th day of the 70 days of fasting with prayers. To God alone we give all the glory and praise for strength and answers to our prayers. I encourage you to engage more with the word and in prayers and invite others to join you in this empowerment season.
To the glory of God our Father, today also is Christmas. It is the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!
But as you join billions around the world to celebrate, eat, drink and make merry, you must maintain watchfulness in order to escape the traps of satan, sin and the world (Jn.10:10). To this end, I want you to consider the word of Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman in Mark Gospel chapter 13 and verses 35 through to 37.
Watch ye therefore, for ye know not when the master of the house cometh at even or at midnight or at the cockcrowing or in the morning. Lest coming suddenly he find sleeping. And what I say unto you I say to unto all, watch (Mk.13:35-37)
As the husbandman, you cannot afford to be careless with the words that come out from your mouth. You cannot also be careless with just any thought that comes to your mind. In all things and in everything that you do, you must exercise watchfulness.
But how do I maintain watchfulness?
Guard your heart.
Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life (Pro.4:23)
As the husbandman, you must watch the information that you receive. This includes the books you read, the films you watch, the places you go, the relationships you meet and choose to start and the messages you listen to. This is because what you see, hear and watch forms the information and thoughts that goes into your spirit man and consequently influences the quality of the action you take (Pro.23:7).
And for you to sustain your commitment to stay watchful, you must engage the Person of the Holy Spirit by the weapon of prayer to help detect what is wrong with what you may want to do (Jn.14:26). The Person of the Holy Spirit has three important ministries to you. He teaches, reveals and guides. As you ask for His help and truthfully so in prayers, He will teach you what you need to know; He will reveal to you what is not obvious, helping you to discern right from wrong; and He will guide in the way that you should go, think and act.
As you walk in the fear and admonition of the Lord Jesus Christ this season and beyond, you will become empowered by the Spirit of God to function profitably as the good and godly man, husband and father.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from spiritual complacency and careless living.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, lead me away from ungodly influences and associations.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a profitable watchman over my life, wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I stand upon my watch and I maintain continued watchfulness over what I read, hear and listen to so that the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart will be acceptable in the sight of God and gainful to my wife and children because that is what gives me value as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
