I have discovered from Scriptures that the perfect will of God for the husbandman is to be like His Son Jesus Christ. God wants the husbandman to grow into full maturity. God doesn’t want him to remain as a baby in the things of the word of God but to develop into sonship.
But how does he grow into the full image of Jesus Christ?
The Bible provides the key to the growth of the husbandman.
As new born babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby…(1Pet.2:1b).
From the above Bible passage, you will discover that the word of God is the ingredient you need to grow to becoming the good and godly husbandman. Just like the plant needs sunlight and the baby needs milk to growth, you cannot but need the word of God if you must grow to become the good and godly man, husband and father. So, as the husbandman who wants to be like Jesus Christ, you must desire the pure word of God because it is only when you desire the word of God that you are motivated to feed on it. You must also pray the word of God into your life and ask the Person of the Holy Spirit to make it a reality in your daily walk as the man, husband and father. This is because there are forces that want to hinder you from becoming like Jesus Christ as you walk the face of the earth (1Cor.16:9).
Now, why do I need to feed on the word of God to grow and be like Jesus Christ?
The word of God is the truth. It contains the principles that are enduring and unchanging. Forever O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven (Ps.119:89). The word of God provides direction that will lead you to act, conduct yourself and react in ways pleasing to God, as you lead your life, wife and children. The word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Ps.119:105). The word of God changes and transforms. For we all with an open face beholding as in a glass, the glory of the Lord are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord (2Cor.3:18). The more you feed on the word by studying and thinking on it, the more you experience transformation in your spirit, soul and body.
Awake you who sleep and arise from the dead and Christ will shine on you (Eph.5:14)
It is true that you may not be living the life Jesus Christ wants you to live. It may be true that everything about your conduct, action and attitude are far from being called good and godly. And you may have concluded that you cannot be like Jesus Christ. Do not give up. Do not surrender to defeat. Make a firm decision today to be like Jesus Christ. Ask God to forgive you and invite Jesus Christ into your life. Walk with the Person of the Holy Spirit for help and guidance and keep your prayer altar aflame.
You can be like Jesus Christ!
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the name of Jesus, have mercy upon me for refusing to desire the pure milk of Your word.
- Father, in the name of Jesus, empower my life to grow by Your word.
- Father, in the name of Jesus, empower me to be like Jesus Christ by Your word.
FAITH CONFESSION
I desire and drink from the pure word of God to grow and be like Jesus Christ because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
