Praise be unto Jesus Christ Our Saviour for the journey so far in this spiritual exercise which commenced in December 2023. Today is the 70th day of the prayer and fasting and it is also the last day. To God alone we give all the glory for the grace to wait upon Him. May our expectations which we have brought to Jesus Christ in prayers be met and exceeded in Jesus name. Amen. May the blessings of fasting be evident for all to see (Is.58:4-11).
As we come to the close of the 70 days of fasting and prayers, and begin a new year, I want you to be conscious of who you are in Christ Jesus as the good and godly husbandman. I also want to encourage you to continue to look to Jesus and His word and be determined to be a brighter light in goodness and godliness (Heb.12:2, Pro.4:18).
Therefore, let your life and mine life be guided by the test from Philippians chapter 4 and verse 8.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are TRUE, whatever things are NOBLE, whatever things are JUST, whatever things are PURE, whatever things are LOVELY, whatever things are of GOOD REPORT, if there be anything of virtue and if there is anything PRAISEWORTHY, MEDITATE on these things (Philp.4:8)
As the husbandman, this passage of the Bible has the power to transform you and to make you become a better leader. The instructions are to help you to think deeply about what you want to do. And if you can allow this test to guide your decisions and action, you will just realize that your life will become a force to be reckoned with as the good and godly man, husband and father. This is why God wants you to subject your action to the test in Philippians chapter 4 and verse 8. If it is good, lovely, pure, of good report and will bring praise to God and to your wife and children, go ahead and do it. But if it doesn’t agree with the word of God, don’t do it. Simply throw it away.
But how do I put what I want to do to test on the basis of God’s word?
Begin by knowing what the word of God commands you to do as the man, husband and father. And this you can achieve by giving attention to studying the word of God (Jn.5:39, 2Tim.2:15). The more you study the word of God, the more you have the word stored in your heart so that when you want to make decisions, the Person of the Holy Spirit reminds and guides you by the word (Ezk.2:2, Jn.14;26). Secondly, you pray for the outpouring of the Holy Ghost and the power of the Highest to overshadow you with the light of the gospel (Lk.1:35). When the word of God overwhelms you, you will no longer be ruled by the dictates of your emotions, feelings or the rudiments and philosophies of men. Rather, you will be ruled by the word of God and you become empowered to only do those things that please God.
Welcome to a new beginning! Welcome to a life of honour and dignity! You are the good and godly husbandman. Hallelujah!
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to meditate on things that will bring You praise.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the corruption and philosophies of this world and the rudiments of men.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower my life to be ruled by the power of Your word for a fruitful living.
FAITH CONFESSION
I meditate on the word of God which is true, just, pure, lovely, noble and of good report because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
