Over the past few days, I kept hearing in my spirit, “have respect for the covenant”. And this is further to a teaching I heard about a very popular Nigerian preacher, who authoritatively said that divorce is not a sin and he went ahead to give examples of contemporary people who divorced. He sounded so confident of what he said and because of his influence in the society, many husbandmen may be thinking of divorcing their wives and justifying their action by what the preacher said.
It is this misleading teaching that has prompted the Person of the Holy Spirit to inspire in my heart to revisit the teaching on divorce. The word of God tells us about the spirit of error and the spirit of truth, hence every husbandman must be guided by the spirit of truth of God’s word and not the inspiring words of man (Jn.4:6).
As the husbandman, satan, sin and the world tell you that your wife is not good for you anymore. They tell you that it is acceptable to break the covenant of marriage with your wife. They tell you that your wife’s failures and failings are unpardonable. They tell you that reconciliation with your wife is not the option. They give you several reasons why divorce is the best option. But hear what the One who instituted the office of the husbandhood says in Malachi chapter 2 and verse 14 and Matthew chapter 19:5.
Please, read these Scriptures slowly and with an open heart
Yet ye say, wherefore? Because the Lord hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth against whom thou hast dealt treacherously, yet she is thy COMPANION and the WIFE of thy youth…. For the Lord, the God of Israel saith that he HATETH PUTTING AWAY for one COVERETH VIOLENCE WITH HIS GARMENT saith the Lord of hosts, therefore TAKE HEED to YOUR SPIRIT that ye deal not treacherously (Mal.2:14)
And
The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him and saying unto him, is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he said, for this cause shall a man leave father and mother and shall cleave to his wife and the two shall become one flesh. Wherefore, they are no more twain but one flesh. What therefore GOD HATH JOINED TOGETHER, LET NO MAN PUT ASUNDER (Matt.19:5)
Don’t let satan, sin and the world separate you from your wife. God wants you to love your wife as Christ has loved the church and gave Himself to it despite her failures, failings and inadequacies (Eph.5:25). God wants you to be reconciled with your wife just as Christ has reconciled man to God. God wants His love to be shed abroad in your heart and let the same love flow to your wife as Christ has done for humanity (Rom.5:5, Jn.3:16).
Husbandman, hear this truth. There are no irreconcilable differences that the love of Christ cannot resolve if only you believe. The word of God is your standard for living and not your pastor, bishop, reverend or founder (Jn.5:29, Heb.12:2).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, open my eyes to see where the landmine of divorce is laid for me.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to overcome the landmine of divorce.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, and by the blood of Jesus, empower me to reconcile every irreconcilable differences between my wife and I.
FAITH CONFESSION:
I overcome the landmine of divorce by the word of the Lord and I live peaceably and joyfully with my wife because it is the will of God for me as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
