In the last couple of years in ministry, I have had the privilege to speak at meetings and Christian fellowships. A common struggle for the husbandmen from the questions they ask is that they wish they can love their wife and children as Christ has loved the church. They wished they could do what I admonish them to do. And this is why today’s teaching is being taught to remind the husbandman that he doesn’t wish to love but he acts to love.
As the good and godly husbandman, you must take up the responsibility of loving your wife and children as Christ loves you and I (Eph.5:22). You must not only know to how to love them, you must actually and truthfully demonstrate your love for them by your good and godly actions (Jas.1:22).
Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments (1Jn.5:1-3)
It is true that loving your wife and children comes with a cost. It requires a lot of sacrifices but if you compare the cost and the benefit, you will realize that the benefits are much more than the cost.
So how do I commit myself to loving and to keep loving my wife and children as the good and godly husbandman?
The first step is by praying in the Holy Ghost for the love of Christ to be planted in your heart.
And hope maketh not ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us (Rom.5:5)
Until the love of Christ is spread abroad in your heart by the Holy Ghost, you will be unable to give genuine love to them. This is because you cannot give what you don’t have. But if the love of Christ is firmly planted in your heart, the Person of the Holy Ghost empowers you to make that love happen for your wife and children as you lead them.
Secondly, you must walk by faith and not by sight.
Without faith it is impossible to please God…(Heb.11:6)
Without faith in God and His word, you will not be able to extend His kind of love to your wife and children. Without the help of God through Jesus Christ, you will be unable to do anything (Jn.15:5).
You can never be wrong loving your wife and children as Christ has loved the church. You gain everything. Therefore, partner with the Person of the Holy Ghost in your love walk as Christ has commanded so that you can become the good and godly husbandman that God, your wife and children will be proud of. Hallelujah!
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, endue me with power to love my wife and children as You have commanded.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, destroy the foundation of bitterness, resentment and anger in my life that I have towards my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, guide me continually through Your word and empower me to be both the hearer and doer of Your commandment to love my wife and children as You would.
FAITH CONFESSION
I rededicate my life to love and keep loving my wife and children with the whole of my mind, soul and body because that is a proof that I am a follower of Jesus Christ and the example of the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
