THE LEADERSHIP ROLES OF THE HUSBANDMAN

Spread the love

Bible Texts: 1Pet.5:1-4, Acts 1:1, Heb.12:1-3, Matt.6:22, Mk.9:29, Lk.6:45, Jn.2:5, Jas.4:7, 2Cor.5:14, Col.3:19, Eph.6:4, Jn.3:16

Yesterday, we understood from Scriptures that what we allow into our hearts as husbandmen determines our conduct as men, husbands and fathers. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that you and I shall test what we allow into our hearts by the word of God. Amen.

What does God expect from you as the leader in your home?

The answer is found in the first book of Peter chapter 5.

The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed. Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion, but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly, not as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock, and when the Christ Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away (1Pet.5:1-4)

From the Bible passage in 1st Peter chapter 5 and verses 1 through to 4, the roles of the husbandman are clearly defined.

Firstly, the husbandman is a shepherd to his wife and children as unto the Lord.

Shepherd the flock which is among you (1Pet.5:2)

You are a servant and you are to serve the best interest of your wife and children.

Secondly, you are to build your wife and children to become all that God wants them to be, and you achieve this by investing your resources, time, money, skill, experience, knowledge, physical strength, in them.

Serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly (1Pet.5:3a)

Finally, you are to become a role model for your wife and children after the nature of Jesus Christ.

Not as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock (1Pet.5:3b)

As the husbandman, you are the leader. And your leadership influence is powerful enough to influence your life and the lives of your wife and children unto goodness and godliness. But your commitment to pursuing and doing what God commands you to do as the man, husband and father is what profits you as the husbandman. Therefore, be the good and godly leader indeed by good and godly works.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with a fresh desire and zeal to execute my responsibilities as the husbandman.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of servanthood.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to do Your perfect will as the man, husband and father.

FAITH CONFESSION

I take personal responsibility to perform my roles, willingly and joyfully as the man, husband and father because that is what makes me the good and godly leader in the lives of my wife, children and in the market place in Jesus name. Amen.
