BUILD THEM UP BY THE WORD OF GOD

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Jn.14:12, Jn.5:39, 2Tim.2:15, Jn.14:26, Acts.1:1, Ps.1:1-3, 1Tim.3:4-5, Gen.12:1-3, Eph.6:4

Over the past few days, the Person of the Holy Spirit has helped us to understand our covenant responsibilities as the man, husband and father to the end that we become the good and godly husbandman and receive the blessing from the Lord (Ps.1:3).

But how can you and I empower our wife and children unto goodness and godliness so that our labour in their lives will not be in vain?

The Scripture in John Gospel chapter 14 and verse 12 provides the answer.

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do he will do also, and greater works than these he will do because I go to My Father (Jn.14:12)

The Scripture in John chapter 14 and verse 12 tells us about Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman. He had a chat with His disciples about what He expects them to do. He told them they will do greater works than He has done because He did not only invest His time and resources, He also taught them. And He also promised to send the Person of the Holy Spirit to help them (Jn.14:26).

Now, looking unto Jesus Christ as your motivator and your example, these are the steps you can take to empower your wife and children.

Firstly, study the word of God for yourself and give them instructions based on the word of God (1Tim.3:4-5, 2Tim.2:15). The Bible is full of instructions that you can pass onto your wife and children and it is your responsibility to study the Bible, extract the instructions and teach them (2Tim.2:15). Secondly, you must not only teach them, you must also demonstrate the instructions by your actions and conduct (Acts 1:1). This means that you must model your life after Jesus Christ and this must reflect in what you think, how you relate with your wife, children and others in the marketplace and how you conduct yourself both at home and outside the home.

God wants to work with you to make the lives of your wife and children glorious. God wants to beautify their lives. God wants their lives to bring Him glory. God wants to partner with you to make His plans a reality in their lives. Therefore, you must take responsibility to do your part to teach, motivate and live out what you teach because that is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with grace to diligently study Your word.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me hearing ears and seeing eyes as I study Your word.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to teach and live out Your instructions.

FAITH CONFESSION

I diligently search the Scriptures to know the perfect will of God for my life, wife and children and I teach and live out His instructions and motivate my wife and children to do same because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
