THEY FOLLOWED JESUS, ARE THEY FOLLOWING YOU?

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Jn.1:36-40, Ps.23:1, 1Tim.4:12, Acts 3:1-10, Jn.14:6, 1Tim.3:2, Matt.5:14-16, 2Tim.2:15, Dan.1:8, Ps.34:14-15, Heb.12:14

The major challenge the husbandman is confronted with is his inability and failure to enjoy the followership of his wife and children and to see them walk in his footsteps and obey him. And this has become his struggles and burden he continues to carry on in his leadership role. But today, by the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, let’s dive into the word to find the secret that made the disciples to abandon everything and followed Jesus Christ. I am confident that if you put this truth to work in the way you lead your life, wife and children, they will follow you and even lay their lives for you.

Now, the word.

When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, look, the Lamb of God! When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, what do you want? They said, Rabbi, which means Teacher, where are you staying? Come, he replied, and you will see. So they went and saw where he was staying and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon. Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. (Jn.1:36-40) NIV

Did you know the secret why the disciples decided to follow Jesus Christ? Jesus Christ is a Teacher. They are sure that if they followed Him, He will guide them and help them to succeed in life. Jesus speaking said, I am the way, the truth and the life (Jn.14:6). They knew Jesus Christ will not mislead them. They trusted His judgement. So, can your wife follow you the way Andrew and Simon Peter followed Jesus Christ? Can you children trust you enough to follow you? If they don’t want to follow you, examine yourself and consider your ways (2Cor.13:5, Hag.1:7). Are you teaching and guiding them in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4, Deut.6:6-10, 1Pet.3:7)? Are you communicating effectively to your wife and children, good and godly principles? If you are not the example you teach, they will not follow you. If you are not reliable, dependable and trusted, they will not follow you. If you do not have a tangible testimony of the goodness of God through Jesus Christ in your life which they can see and testify of, they will not follow you.

The disciples acknowledged Jesus Christ as the Rabbi, which is Teacher, so they followed Him. So, being a teaching priest to your wife and children is the secret to commanding their followership.

Here is a trustworthy saying. Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, ABLE TO TEACH (1Tim.3:1-2) NIV

You are the overseer in your sheepfold, overseeing God’s treasures-your wife and children. One of the virtues you must possess as you lead them is the ability to know the word of God, be a doer of what the word commands and instructs, and teach the word of God to your wife and children by your lifestyle and conduct. That is the secret. That is your heritage as the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, lead me so that I can be the good and godly example.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me Your ways, Your truth and life so that I can become like You.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be the good and godly teacher in thoughts, words and conduct.

FAITH CONFESSION

I give attention to the word of God and I apply myself to the demands of Scriptures by my words and conduct because that is what makes me the good and godly leader and an attraction at home and in the market place in Jesus name. Amen.
