“Today’s topic is a call to the husbandman reading this devotional to be compassionate towards his wife, children and those who may be hurting around him”
Did you realize that one of the virtues of the good and godly husbandman is compassion? Today, I want you to know that. But what is compassion?
Compassion simply means feeling the discomfort and pain of others as though you are the one.
Now consider the Scripture in Luke chapter 7 and see how Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman responded to the woman who lost her son.
Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother and she was a widow and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said unto her, weep not. (Lk.7:12-13)
Jesus, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, had compassion on the woman whose son was dead. Jesus did not know her but when He saw the burial procession of the woman’s son, He asked questions. He wanted to know what happened. He had compassion when He saw the woman’s tears and pain. Jesus had pity on the woman and brought her dead son back to life. Jesus made her laugh again. Jesus wiped her tears away and gave her joy. That is who you are. You are in the lives of your wife and children to make them laugh. Your presence in their lives is to wipe away their pains, whether it be mental, emotional, physical and spiritual.
We have a High Priest who is touched with the feeling of our infirmities….(Heb.4:15)
As the good and godly husbandman, you must have compassion toward your wife and children. Your heart must be filled with mercy toward them, especially when they are hurting. You must contend with any force that wants to make you look the other way when your wife or children are unhappy or in pain, regardless of whether it is their fault or not. For the love of Christ constraineth us (2Cor.5:14).
But how do I develop the virtue of compassion which is the nature of Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman?
Firstly, you must have the mind of Christ.
Let this mind be in you, even the mind of Christ….(Philp.2:5)
Having the mind of Christ means you are ruled by the principles of Scriptures and not the philosophies of man. Whatever God’s word says is what you will do.
Secondly, you must engage the power of the Holy Ghost to fill your heart with the love of Christ.
Let the love of Christ be spread abroad in your heart by the Holy Ghost (Rom.5:5)
The Person of the Holy Spirit empowers you to be filled with compassion and mercy. You must ask Him to spread love and mercy abundantly in your heart so that there will be no room for revenge, hatred, bitterness, strife and unforgiveness against your wife and children or anyone.
Thirdly, you must continue to pray for the grace of God to enable you to always overcome evil with good.
Be not overcome by evil but overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21)
You are the true reflection of Jesus Christ in thoughts, words and conduct. You are made in the image and likeness of Jesus Christ. Therefore, compassion is your nature. Be compassionate towards others and be an agent of restoration of joy and peace.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, uproot every seed of bitterness, strife, unforgiveness and selfishness in my heart.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill my heart with Your love and let it move me to be compassionate and merciful.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower my spirit man with divine nature and make me function like Christ.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have the mind of Jesus Christ and by it I possess and manifest the nature of mercy and compassion because that is what defines my headship as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
