BE CONSISTENT IN GODLY CHARACTER

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Job 31:1-7, Matt.6:22, Jas.1:7, Jer.11:12, Rom.12: 21, Gen.14:22-23, Pro.1:10, Is.3:10, Philp.4:8, 1Tim.6:11

Today, we shall be considering two important virtues the husbandman must have in order to grow and be established as the good and godly man, husband and father. And the husbandman that we will be studying from the Bible is Job.

This is the testimony of Job and that must be your desire as you walk the path to becoming the good and godly man, husband and father, and in all your pursuits.

I will wait on God until my change comes (Job 14:14)

When you read the Book of Job, you will see the husbandman who defied the odds, stood for righteousness, and maintain his character. At the height of his challenges when he was advised to curse God and die, he refused. He chose to stand firm in his faith in God and what God had promised. He did not only have good and godly character, he was also consistent. That is what God expects from every husbandman, beginning with you.

God does not desire that the husbandman should be unstable in his character. God does not want the husbandman who is not consistent in doing what is righteous. God does not want the husbandman who compromises in doing the right thing from the word of God because of what he stands to gain.

Think about this Scripture for a moment.

For the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord (Jas.1:6-7) New Heart English Bible

The Book of James says that an unstable man, that is a man who lacks consistency in good and godly character, will not receive from God. God doesn’t want that for you. He wants you to receive all things that make for the good and godly husbandman and so He demands that you pursue after righteousness and be consistent in doing what the word of God commands.

But how do I maintain consistency in good and godly character?

Firstly, you must be visionary. What this means is that you must always have the future in view and be posterity conscious (Jer.1:11-12). As the husbandman, you must understand that your life and conduct both in the secret and in the open has direct or indirect consequences either for the now or the future, hence you must be careful what you do or say. Maintaining consistency in godly character earns you the trust of the people and creates goodwill for you.

Secondly, you must model and anchor your life after Jesus Christ by bringing your thoughts, will, emotions and body under subjection to the word of God (1Cor.9:27, Rom.12:2,21). You must make the word of God your final authority on all matters, however discomforting it may be for you or anyone for that matter.

As the husbandman, you must continue to strive for godliness in all that you do. You must maintain steadfastness and focus in living out the word of God as the good and godly man, husband and father. It is the way to go for a profitable living.

Hallelujah!
