BE THE GOOD STEWARD

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Lk.19:11-26, Philp.2:13, Gal.4:19, Ps.24:1, 2Tim.2:15, Lk.18:1, Mk.9:29, 1Pet.3:7-9, Eph.6:4, Col.3:19, Jn.3:29, Gen.22:18

The perfect will of God for the husbandman is for him to be a good steward because that is the proof of accountability and maturity. So, let us learn from the Gospel according to Luke chapter 19 and verses 11 through to 26 how you and I can be the good steward.

In Luke 19:11-26, Jesus Christ told a story about a landowner who gave three men money to manage. Each of the men was expected to invest and grow the money given to them because they must account to the landowner of their stewardship of the resource given to them by the landowner. When the landowner returned, they all appeared before him to give their reports. The landowner rewarded the three managers based on their outcome or results. While the first and second managers made profit from the money given to them, the third did not. So, the landowner called the first and second managers wise men and the third manager a wicked man.

What is the lesson you and I can learn from this story?

The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness therefore, the world and they that dwell therein (Ps.24:1)

The first lesson for you and I as husbandmen is that our wife and children as well as well other material and financial assets are resources God owns. You don’t own anything. God owns everything.

No one receives anything except it be given to him by God (Jn.3:27)

The second lesson is that your wife, children, position, power, finance and everything you have, has been given to you by God and you are to act as the good steward because you shall be accountable to God, our Master, through Jesus Christ.

Therefore, God demands that you grow the resources he has given to you and make them profitable, including your wife and children (Gen.22:18).

But how do I become a good steward?

There are two wisdom keys you must covet and display if you want to become a good steward of God’s resources in your custody. The first is knowledge of the truth (Jn.8:32). You must seek to know from God’s word what is expected of you to do with the resources in your care, including your wife and children (2Tim.2:15). The second wisdom key is prayer with fasting (Mk.9:29, Gal.4:19). Prayer and fasting are two indispensable weapons of warfare in your quest to becoming the good and godly manager. This is because there are many resistances from satan, sin and the world (Jn.10:10). But when you pray and fast, you are connected to the power of God which enables you to make profit of His resources in your care (Jn.15:5, Philp.2:13).

God trusts you and He has entrusted His resources, that is, your wife, children, money, position, power into your care. Be the good steward by the wisdom of God and the resources profitable.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for being wasteful of Your resources in my care.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me wisdom to make the resources You gave me profitable.
  • Father, in the name of Jesus, empower me to be the good steward of Your resources in my care.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am the good steward of God’s resources and I work to make the resources in my care bigger, better and profitable because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
