Bible Texts: 1Chro.4:8-10, Ac.14:15, Jas.5:17, 1Kgs.17:1, Gal.4:19, Matt.7:7, Rev.12:10, Mk.9:29, Jer.33:3, Ps.39:13, Heb.11:6, Heb.13:8, Mal.3:6
Our text for today’s devotional is from 1st Chronicles chapter 4. It tells us about the husbandman who prayed until the changes he so desired happened. His name is Jabez. I encourage you to meditate on the actions of Jabez because the God who answered him is ready to answer you today (Mal.3:6, Heb.13:8).
And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me. AND GOD GRANTED HIM THAT WHICH HE REQUESTED (1Chro.4:8-10)
Jabez had unfavourable circumstances around his life and family. His mother gave birth to him in sorrow. His name and that of his family was an embodiment of sorrow. But one day, he reacted to his negative identity. He desired a change. He wanted to move his family forward just the same way you have been longing to make the needed positive changes in your life as the man, husband and father. So, he prayed. And God answered him and made him more honourable than his brethren and his family name changed for the better.
As the good and godly husbandman, you have enormous responsibilities that require you needing the help of God to fulfill them. The challenges you or anyone may be experiencing now, i.e. spells and enchantment, barrenness, lack and want, struggles, unsustained progress, addictions, failures, sickness and diseases can be overcome when you bring God into it by your prayer of faith. Jabez’s prayer to God terminated every form of stagnation in his life and by extension his family. You too can engage the weapon of prayer to change your life and circumstances as well as that of your wife and children for good and godliness (Mk.9:29). Prayer changes everything and anything. Prayer recreates the destiny of any husbandman who dares to engage it, notwithstanding the challenges (Jas.5:16). You can prevail by winning on your knees.
But faith in God is the principal thing you require to get your prayers answered.
He that must come to God must first believe that He is and He is the rewarded of them that diligently seek Him (Heb.11:6)
You must believe God and His word, just as Jabez did. You must demonstrate absolute confidence in God and His ability to answer you when you call on Him (Jer.33:3).
Therefore, pray without ceasing until the good and godly changes you desire as the man, husband and father happen in your life (1Thess.5:17).
Hallelujah!
