Bible Texts: Mk.15:14-15, 2Pet.2:10, 1Pet.1:7, Heb.11:33, Heb.11:1-3, Matt.7:7, Lk.18:1, Rev.12:10, 1Tim.6:12, 2Tim.1:7, 2Tim.1:13, Jos.1:6-8
Our focus today is on Mark chapter 15 and you and I can draw lessons from it to readjust our position as husbandmen so that we can please Jesus Christ in all things. I trust the Person of the Holy Spirit to reveal Himself to us as husbandmen.
The Scripture in Mark chapter15 tells the story of Jesus Christ and Pontius Pilate. When Jesus Christ was wrongfully arrested by the Jews, He was brought to Pontius Pilate, who can be described as a judge in our day. The people accused Jesus Christ of so many wrong things and demanded that He must be killed. Pontius Pilate heard the request of the accusers of Jesus but he knew that what they alleged that He did was false. Much as the people tried to justify what they accused Jesus of, they could not convince Pontius Pilate. There were no verifiable facts to back their allegations against Jesus Christ. Pontius Pilate knew they were lying.
But Pilate answered them saying, will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews? For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy (Mk.15:10)
Nevertheless, Pontius Pilate handed over Jesus Christ to His accusers. Why did he handover Jesus Christ to the accusers even when he knew Jesus was innocent? He did that because he was afraid of the people. Pontius Pilate was not man enough to do the right thing. He handed over an innocent person to be abused, humiliated, tortured, striped, mocked, bruised and eventually crucified.
Then Pilate said unto them, why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, crucify him. And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him to be crucified (Mk.15:14-15)
Now, this is the message. As the good and godly husbandman, you must not be afraid of satan and people, rather you must stand for what is right on the basis of God’s word as you lead yourself, wife and children. You must understand that the perfect will of God is for you to be better than Pontius Pilate. God doesn’t want you to expose your wife and children to the insults, abuses and torments of any human. For instance, that your wife is not pregnant or has not given you a male child does not mean that you should let your parents, sibling, friends or even relations torment her. You must not be like Pontius Pilate who is faint hearted. You must protect your wife and children. You must learn and be prepared to defend your wife and children before satan, sin and the world. No one, no matter his or her position or status, is powerful to make you release your wife and children for harassment and embarrassment. The word of God says that you do not have the spirit of fear or intimidation because God did not give it you. What He gave you is this.
Spirit of boldness and a sound mind (2Tim.1:7)
So, step out and be the watchman over your wife and children against foxes.
But for you to be better than Pontius Pilate, you need to desperately ask the Lord to fill you with the Spirit of courage and faith (Jos.1:6-9, Heb.11:1-3, Matt.7:7). You need more than a bold face to do what is right according to the word of God. You need faith and courage because courage is a spirit and it comes only from God. Therefore, ask for it because you will always need it to function as the good and godly husbandman.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the Spirit of boldness to confront and overcome the pressure of satan, sin and the world.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to defend my wife and children against faleshood.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, break the power of fear and intimidation in my life.
FAITH CONFESSION
I am empowered by the Spirit of God to walk, work, and speak boldly and confidently to defend my wife and children from the assaults of satan, sin and the world because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
