Bible Texts: Mk.10:13-16, Deut.6:7-10, Eph.6:4, Gen.1:26-28, 1Tim.3:2-5, Is.61:9, Ps.1:3, Ps.127:3, Gen.18:19, Pro.19:18
It is becoming increasingly challenging for fathers to exert their godly authority and influence over their children and this has led to so many dysfunctional children. But when I listened to Dr. Myles Munroe’s teaching on the authority and power of the father, I am inspired to re-enact the message of Jesus Christ on fatherhood. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that you shall be an impactful father. Amen.
And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them, and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily, I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. And he took them up to his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them (Mk.10:13-16)
From the Scripture above, Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, demonstrated how the father can be useful, powerful and influential in the lives of his children. Jesus Christ took these actions as seen from the word of God in Mark Gospel chapter 10.
And he took them up to his arms (Mk.10:16a)
Jesus Christ took the children to His arms as a sign of friendship. You must not only provide for your children, you must also have a good and godly relationship with them. You must be their cheerleader.
Jesus put his hands upon them (Mk.10:16a)
Jesus intentionally connected with the children by putting His hands upon them as a sign of identity. You must connect with your children spiritually, mentally and emotionally. A handshake, a hug or even a tap on their shoulder can do the magic when they are hurting or when they are happy or when they do well.
And Jesus blessed them (Mk.10:16b)
After Jesus Christ had taken the children up to his arms and placed His hands upon them, He blessed them. He did not curse them. He empowered the children by the words of His. Regardless of your children’s failures, weaknesses and shortcomings, don’t curse them. Just like Jesus Christ, bless them and prophesy good and godliness into their lives.
You are the prophet over your children. You have authority and power from God to influence your children positively and make them a blessing to their world (Is.61:9). Therefore, take your rightful place by the authority and power of the word of God and be the good and godly father indeed (Eph.6:4, Gal.4:19, Deut.6:7-10, Num.6:20-22).
