THE HUSBANDMAN AS AN INTERCESSOR

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Jn.17:8-10, Mk.9:29, Lk.18:1, Gal.4:10, Philp.2:13, Jer.29:11, 3Jn.:2, Ps.23:1, 1Thess.5:17, Rom.12:21, Eph.6:4

One of the principal attributes of the good and godly husbandman is intercession. That is, the husbandman is an intercessor, who stands in the gap and prays for others, beginning by praying for his wife and children. This is because prayer is the weapon he has to shield and secure his wife and children from the influences of satan, sin and the world (Jn.10:10).

But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you, My little children of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you (Gal.4:18-19)

I want you to carefully read this passage of Scripture and see why you must intercede for your wife and children, as your covenant responsibility.

I pray for them. I pray not for the world but for them which thou hast given me, for they are mine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine, and I am glorified in them (Jn.17:9-10)

Jesus prayed for his disciples and they become empowered to continue the assignment as evidenced in the Acts of the Apostles. God wants you to lift up your wife and children in prayers concerning the issues of their lives, be it spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, career, academic, relationship, health and so much more.

God wants you to pray for their spiritual life so that they will be filled with the fear and knowledge of the Lord which will make them to love God and do only those things that please Him whether anyone is watching them or not (Is.11:2). God also wants you to pray for their physical well-being. This covers their health, education, career, business and all other pursuits. God wants you to pray for their emotional well-being too. God wants you to pray for them so that they find and build healthy, godly and goodly relationships, be above any form of peer pressure and remain stable in their thoughts and conduct (Rom.12:2).

The husbandmen that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits (2Tim.2:6)

As the good and godly husbandman, you will always be the final beneficiary of the results of your prayers for your wife and children. Therefore, you must be intentional about praying for them even as you drive or walk to work, as you sit to eat, as you take a walk down the street or in your quiet time. Your wife and children belong to you. God gave them to you so that through you He can mould them to become all that He plans for them (Gen.12:2, Ps.133:2). And your intercession is the platform to make that happen. Are you ready to start interceding for them?
