MAINTAIN A CONTINUAL WATCH
Bible Texts: Mk. 13:36-37, Matt.15:11, Am.6:1, 1Cor.15:33, Matt.15:18, Jn.14:26, Heb.4:12, Mk.9:29, Gal.4:19, Philp.1:18-19, 2Cor.5:17
The man of God, Oswald Chambers said that every believer in Jesus Christ must maintain a continual watch so that nothing of shame will arise in the life of the believer. This is why as the husbandman, you and I cannot be complacent as good and godly shepherd. We must maintain continuous watchfulness over our life’s conduct so that we will not be afraid of what men will say or accuse you of.
As the husbandman, you must understand that you can fall into error if you are not careful and watchful over what you allow into your heart and mind, the relationships you keep and the places you go. In all things that you do, you must exercise watchfulness.
Watch ye therefore, for ye know not when the master of the house cometh at even or at midnight or at the cockcrowing or in the morning. Lest coming suddenly he find sleeping. And what I say unto you I say to unto all, watch (Mk.13:35-37)
But how do I maintain watchfulness, as the husbandman?
The first step is to watch the information you receive into your life. This includes the books you read, the films you watch and the messages you listen to. It is the information that you receive into your inner man that influences the quality of your thoughts and how you respond to issues of life (Matt.15:11-18). The second step is for you to constantly engage the ministry and help of the Person of the Holy Ghost so that He can you help to discern right from wrong (Jn.14:26, Heb.4:12). Thirdly, you engage in the continuous study of the word of the God and pray earnestly for the word of God to gain root in your heart and bear fruits in your outward life (Ps.119:105, Mk.9:29, Gal.4:19, 2Tim.2:15).
However, your first step to enjoying the help of God through Jesus Christ in your desire to be watchful over your life, is to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and saviour. This means that you must be born again and accept Him into your life.
If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things have passed away and behold all things are become new (2Cor.5:17)
The power of God that empowers the husbandman to live a life of victory dwells in a regenerated life. So newness of life is the key that unlocks the door for you to access the power of God that makes you live a victorious life.
