THE PURSUIT OF SELF-DISCIPLINE FOR THE HUSBANDMAN (1)

I have discovered that fasting is a spiritual discipline every husbandman must imbibe in his journey of becoming the good and godly man, husband and father. And I pray that the ongoing fasting and prayers will empower you to live above the dictates of the flesh, in Jesus name. Amen.
Self discipline is the attribute you must have to remain focused on your goal to becoming the good and godly husbandman. In 1st Peter chapter 1, the Scripture gives insight to it.
Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ, as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance, but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct , because it is written, be holy, for I am holy (1Pet.1:13-16)
The Scripture above clearly tells you and I how to discipline ourselves as the husbandman. And that is what we shall be considering in the next few days.
Today, it is about how you must guard what goes into your mind and how what you allow into your mind influences your thoughts, actions, utterances and conduct.
Therefore, gird up the loins of your mind (1 Pet.1:13)
God wants you to gird the loins of your mind because your mind is the seat of your decision. Whatever you say or do or how you respond is a direct result of what you have stored in your mind. This is why the Bible tells us that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Lk.6:45). This means that you must examine and watch with all diligence what you allow into your mind by testing it with the word of God (Philp.4:8).
The implication of subjecting what goes into your mind to the commandments of God in His word proves that you have submitted to the authority of the word of God. This delights God. Secondly, guarding the loins of your mind also means that you are constantly engaging with the forces of prayers and fasting to remain spiritually alert to discern and know what is the perfect and acceptable will of God for you as the man, husband and father (Mk.9:29, Lk.18:1, Jn.14:26, Gal.4:19). Finally, it means you are constantly engaging with the word of God by studying and meditating on it with joy in your heart (Jos.1:6-8, Ps.1:13). This is because the more you study the word of God for yourself, the more you know Him, His Person and His power and align yourself to what He wants you to do as the man, husband and father (Job 22:21, Jn.5:39, Jn.8:32, 2Tim.2:15, Rom.12:1-2).
Praise be unto Jesus Christ our Saviour.

I receive into my mind the commandments and instructions of God and I submit myself to the perfect will of God in all things because it is the foundation I need to build the discipline that makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
