Lest coming suddenly he finds you sleeping. AND WHAT I SAY UNTO YOU I SAY TO ALL, WATCH (Mk.13:36-37).
Jesus Christ says to His disciples just as He is saying to you today to watch (Matt.26:41). Why must I watch and pray and watch again as the husbandman?
The first reason why you must watch and pray is so that you do not abandon the values and principles of God that builds you to become the good and godly man, husband and father. Jesus Christ says, lest coming suddenly he finds you sleeping. You must watch what you think, what you say, what you do, where you go, the relationship you make and keep, how you respond and react and how you lead yourself, wife and children to be sure that you conform to the perfect will of God for you (Philp.4:8).
The second reason is so that you can remain steadfast in keeping guard over your sheep that is your wife and children and your sheepfold that is your family from the influences of satan, sin and the principles of the world (Jn.10:13)
But for you to continually watch and pray, you give attention to the Bible by studying and meditating on the word of God through the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit (Jn.14:26). Each time you read and meditate on the word, with the Person of the Holy Spirit guiding you, you learn new things and gain fresh revelation. And it is this revealed word that builds your faith to do the perfect will of God as the husbandman (Philp.2:13).
You must also watch by praying for yourself and praying for your sheep-wife and children with the word of God (Gal.4:19). Prayer empowers you to hear when God is speaking and to see when God is showing you things. One of the important prayers you must pray is for God to give you hearing ears and seeing eyes (Matt.13:16).
Therefore, awake! Watch! Again, watch and pray!
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for being careless in my leadership role as the man, husband and father.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me hearing ears and seeing eyes.
- Father, in the name of Jesus, empower me to exercise power and authority as I watch over my life, wife, children and sheepfold.
FAITH CONFESSION
I stand upon my watch and set myself upon the tower of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit to exercise watchfulness over my life, wife, children and sheepfold because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
