Bible Texts: Matt.20:20-23, Eph.5:22, Gal.4:19, Eph.6:4, Jn.10:11, 2Cor.5:17, Philp.2:13, Acts.1:1-2, Mk.9:29, Jn.5:39, 2Tim.2:15, Ps.23:1, Lk.18:1, Jos.24:15
There is a way God wants you to live your life. It is the way of Jesus Christ because He is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman. He is also the way, the truth and the life. Hence, to live like Jesus Christ is life.
Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him and desiring a certain thing of him. And he said unto her, what wilt thou? She saith unto him, grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right and the other on the left, in thy kingdom. But Jesus answered and said, ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, we are able. And he said unto them, ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with, but to sit on my right hand and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my father (Matt.20:20-23)
The Bible passage tells the encounter Jesus had with the mother of Zebedee’s children. She wants a change of position for her sons. She wants her sons to sit at the right and left side in God’s kingdom. It was a good and noble desire but Jesus asked the mother an important question which was directed to her sons. Jesus asks, “can you drink of the cup that I drink of and can you be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? Literally, Jesus Christ told her that if her sons will sit at right and left hand side in the kingdom, they must live like Jesus Christ in every way possible. They must bear the responsibility that makes it possible for them to attain the position they desire.
As the husbandman, drinking of the cup that Jesus Christ drank is living the Jesus Christ lived while He walked on earth. He was and still is compassionate, holy, merciful, loving, kind, forgiving, sacrificial, peace maker and faithful and so much more good and godly virtues. These are the virtues that God wants you to be baptized into in Christ Jesus, if you want to live as the good and godly man, husband and father.
You must remember that to be called the husbandman is not cheap talk. It is a call to hard work, self discipline, commitment and sacrifices. Therefore, drink from the cup of Jesus Christ, learn at His, be prepared to pay the price that makes for the good and godly husbandman. Living like Jesus after His image and likeness is life.
Hallelujah!
