Bible Texts: Pro.15:13, Lk.4:18, Pro.17:22, Pro.12:25, Zech.4:6, Philp.4:6, 1Thess.5:16-18, Ps.23:1, Ps.103:1-3, PS.115:1, Ps.113:1-2
I have observed that one important area the devil attacks is the spirit man of the husbandman through depression. The devil puts the husbandman under pressure, and overwhelms him with unmet needs and expectations, making him feel broken and defeated. The devil blinds the husbandman from seeing reasons to be grateful to God and be hopeful for a better tomorrow. All the devil and the world show to the husbandman is what is not working. All of these attacks break the spirit of the man which consequently leads him to be frustrated, and depressed and eventually results in high blood pressure and eventually death. This is why today, we want to explore the blessedness of thanksgiving from the word of God so that you and I can continually live a thankful, joyous, and productive life.
A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken (Pro.15:13)
As the husbandman, it is true that there is a lot that is expected of you. The expectation of you becoming like Jesus Christ as the man, husband and father is there on a daily basis (Jn.10:10, 1Tim.5:8, Eph.5:25, 2Thess.3:10, Eph.6:4, Col.3:19). The stakes for being the good and godly man, husband and father are also high and things may not be working out for you as you desire for your life. Please, do not resign to defeat and discouragement. Do not allow your spirit man to be broken. Give thanks to God and rejoice always because it is a commandment from God and it makes your cheerful in your spirit which enables you to draw from the wells of salvation.
But why should I rejoice always and not allow sorrow of the heart? The answer is found in Proverbs chapter 17.
A merry heart doeth good like medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones (Pro.17:22)
The moment your spirit man is broken, it affects your physical and mental disposition. It affects the state of your health and may eventually lead to death. Another reason why you must not allow the sorrow of heart is because it makes you lose the power to move ahead as the man, husband and father. Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop, but a good word maketh it glad (Pro.12:25). So, as the husbandman, you must understand that you have everything to lose when your spirit is broken.
Therefore, the way out is for you to have a cheerful heart.
Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God (Philp.4:6)
You must learn to always give thanks to God even for the life that you live. You must learn to live a life of gratitude. You must learn to be hopeful in God and His word as your journey through life. God did not make you the husbandman so that you will end up in shame, defeat and frustration. His intention for you is to bless you and make you a fit and proper vessel of honour to your wife, children and the world at large (Gen.12:1-3). So, let the joy of the Lord become your strength and be thankful to God for who He is and for what He can do. Praise the Lord!
