Bible Texts: Deut.30:19, Jos.24:15, 1Kgs.18, Ps.112:1-10, Rom.6:1-2, Ps.24:1-3, 1Tim.3:1-5, Rom.5:5, Rom.8:1, Matt.5:6, 2Cor.5:17, Philp.2:13
Yesterday, we began by looking at examples of husbandmen from Scriptures who made good and godly choices, and we started with Joshua in Joshua chapter 24 and verses 14 to 16. We learnt that as the husbandman that God wants you to make good and godly choices every day of your life as you lead yourself, your wife, and your children. This is because the choices you make determine the chances you create.
Today, let us consider another example of a good and godly husbandman who made good and godly choices. His name was Prophet Isaiah.
And Elijah came unto all the people and said, how long halt between two opinions? If the Lord is God follow him, but if Baal, then follow him. Then said Elijah unto the people, I even I only, remain a prophet of the Lord….And call ye on the name of your gods and I will call on the name of the Lord…….And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and they said, the Lord , he is the God, the Lord, he is the God (1Kgs.18: 21-39)
An argument arose in Isaiah’s day over who was the true God. Is it the God of Israel or Baal? To prove who the true God was, a contest was organized. Prophet Isaiah said,” How long shall you all have two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him, but if Baal, then follow him. But for me, I remain the prophet of the Lord.” The choice Prophet Isaiah made to follow God influenced the people of Israel to choose the true God. That is the power of choice.
The third example is God.
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may life (Deut.30:19)
God set before the people of Israel life and death, blessing and cursing. He called them to make a choice. But He advised them to choose life instead of death because choosing life is beneficial to them and to their generations. That is how much importance God gives to the choices we make as husbandmen.
But why is the choice I make so important to my growth and development as the good and godly husbandman?
The choices you make as the man, husband, and father have either a positive or negative impact on you, your wife, and children (Ps.112:1-10). The choices you make also influence the direction your life and the path your wife and children will also take, be it righteousness or evil (Acts 5:1-9).
God is interested in the choices you make, and He wants you to choose what His words say because when you choose His word, you live (Pro.4:20-24, Acts 1:1).
Hallelujah!
