I have discovered that in the journey of success, it is good for someone to discipline you, but it is much more important for you to discipline yourself. Therefore, if the husbandman wants to succeed as the good and godly man, husband and father, he must discipline himself by himself.
In the next few days, we shall be considering how you and I can self-discipline ourselves, and the word of God in 1st Peter chapter 1 shall be our anchor Scripture.
Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ, as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance, but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct , because it is written, be holy, for I am holy (1Pet.1:13-16)
Today, the first area of your life that you must exercise self-discipline is what you allow into your mind because what you put into your heart influences your thoughts, actions, utterances and conduct. So, guard the loins of your mind.
Therefore, gird up the loins of your mind (1 Pet.1:13)
God wants you to gird the loins of your mind because your mind is the seat of decision. Whatever you say or do, or how you respond, is a direct result of what you have stored in your mind. This is why the Bible says that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Lk.6:45). You must examine and continue to watch with all diligence what you allow into your mind by subjecting it to the truth of God’s word (Philp.4:8).
As the husbandman who wants to be like Jesus Christ, the perfect model of the good and godly husbandman, you must submit your will to the authority of the word of God, whether it seems convenient or not. You must continue to engage the forces of prayer and fasting to remain spiritually alert so you can discern what is the perfect and acceptable will of God for you as the man, husband and father (Mk.9:29, Lk.18:1, Jn.14:26, Gal.4:19). Finally, you must continue to engage the word of God by studying it with joy in your heart, and allowing the Person of the Holy Spirit to teach you (Jn.14:26). This is because the more you study the word of God for yourself, the more personal encounters you have with Person of Jesus Christ. You will also know Him more, His Person and His power, and align yourself to what He wants you to do as the man, husband, and father (Job 22:21, Jn.5:39, Jn.8:32, 2Tim.2:15, Rom.12:1-2).
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to filter the information that goes through my ears and eyes through the lens of Your word.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to refuse ungodly seeds into my mind.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make my mind a good ground for Your instructions and principles and let them guide my thoughts and actions.
FAITH CONFESSION
I receive into my mind the commandments and instructions of God and I submit myself to the perfect will of God in all things because it is the foundation I need to build the discipline that makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.

Now that you have read the devotional, it is very important for you to have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. It is the first step in your walk of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.
Please, pray this prayer in faith.
Lord, Jesus, I come to you today, just as I am. I acknowledge that I have fallen short of Your glory. I ask for Your forgiveness of my sins today. I invite You into my life to be my Lord and Saviour. Thank You for saving my life.
