DAY 29 of FASTING AND PRAYER
Bible Texts: Jn.1:36-40, Ps.23:1, 1Tim.4:12, Acts 3:1-10, Jn.14:6, 1Tim.3:2, Matt.5:14-16, 2Tim.2:15, Dan.1:8, Ps.34:14-15, Heb.12:14
I welcome you to the 29th day of the ongoing fasting with prayers, and I have no doubt you have been enjoying intense and deep fellowship with God through Jesus Christ. May the encounters with the Word last you forever. Amen.
The major challenge the husbandman faces is his inability to enjoy the followership of his wife and children, and to see them walk in his footsteps and obey him, following the pattern of Christ. This has become his struggle and burden, which he continues to carry as he leads his wife and children. But today, with the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, let’s dive into the Word to find the secret that will make the husbandman command the followership of his wife and his children the same way Jesus Christ commanded the followership of His disciples.
Now, the Word of Jesus.
When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, look, the Lamb of God! When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, what do you want? They said, Rabbi, which means Teacher, where are you staying? Come, he replied, and you will see. So they went and saw where he was staying and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon. Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. (Jn.1:36-40) NIV
The secret why the disciples decided to follow Jesus Christ is this. Jesus Christ is a Teacher. He taught and guided them. He also helped them to succeed in life (Jn.14:6). They knew Jesus Christ will not mislead them. They trusted His judgment, so they followed Him.
As the husbandman, have you taught and guided your wife and your children in the way and admonition of Jesus Christ (Matt.5:14-16, Acts 1:1, 1Cor.13:4-8, Eph.6:4, Eph.5:25, 1Pet.3:7)? Are you the example of what you teach as a follower of Jesus Christ? These are questions you answer honestly by examining yourself and considering your ways, using the Word of God as your template (2Cor.13:5, Hag.1:7). If you are not the example you teach, they will not follow you. If you are not reliable, dependable and trusted, they will not follow you. If you do not have a tangible testimony of the goodness of God through Jesus Christ in your life that they can see and testify to, they will not follow you.
The disciples acknowledged Jesus Christ as the Rabbi, which is Teacher, so they followed Him. So, being a teaching priest to your wife and children is the secret to commanding their followership.
Here is a trustworthy saying. Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, ABLE TO TEACH (1Tim.3:1-2) NIV
You are the overseer in your sheepfold, overseeing God’s treasures-your wife and children. And one of the virtues you must possess as you lead them is the ability to know the Word of God, be a doer of what the Word commands and instructs, and teach the Word of God to your wife and to your children by your lifestyle and conduct. That is the secret. That is your heritage as the good and godly husbandman.
Hallelujah!
