Honourable Member

For indeed he accepted the exhortation, but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you. And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches. And not that only but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord and declaration of your ready mind. Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord but also in the sight of men. (2Cor.8:17-21)

 As the head of the family, you are ordained by God to provide honorable things not only in the sight of God but also in the sight of men, beginning with your wife and children. To physically abuse or beat up your wife is not honorable. Some husbands have this belief that it is only when they beat up their wives that they (wives) submit to them. That is a lie from hell. For you to deny your wife and children goodwill and provisions is not honorable. Anything that you do that is contrary to what God has commanded from His word is dishonorable. There are husbands who appear so well off before their pastors or church members – zealous in service, giving of their time and finances, getting committed to church activities. These activities seem honorable before God. But the things and attitudes that these husbands put up or do to their wives and children at the home front are so dishonorable that you just wonder if it is the same person. God is saying to you that your headship over your family is to live an honourable life not only before God but also before your flocks. . This is why in Matt.5:16, the Bible says let your light so shine before men.

The beginning point of your light shining is first before men, and those that represent the men are your immediate family-wife and children. Your testimony must be unstained. But you may want to ask, how do l provide honourable things before God and men, specifically, my wife and children? The first thing to do is to love your wife and children sincerely and passionately. The second thing that you must do is to show interest in the lives and the things that your wife and children are doing. You do not just show a passing interest, but such interest that would take something from you to them. You are the head of the family and your life is designed to impact positively on the lives of your flock. Make it honourable so that they may see honour as a virtue.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to do what is pure and honourable to my sheep.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, clean me up and make me a fit shepherd.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me to be in control of my emotions and bring them under Your control.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have been designated by God to live a life of honour because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
