BUILDING ON THE MOMENTUM (5)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Lk.18:1-2

More Scriptures: Job 32:8, Jas.5:17-18, Ps.139:14

Over the last few days, we have been discussing some commitments that every husbandman must make and the practical steps that must be taken to become the good and godly husband. Today another commitment that you must make to build on the momentum of the godly husband is prayer. Let me begin by saying that prayer is more than having your needs met. It is about having a deeper fellowship with God, the One who made you the head of the family. God doesn’t look like an ATM machine neither does He enjoy a one-off or irregular contact with His children. And so, if you want to gain mastery over the challenges in your relationship with your sheep, you must embrace the power of praying.

Jesus, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husband has this to say about prayer. And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray and not to faint. (Lk.18:1). As the spiritual leader and priest over your sheep, you cannot make a success out of your function with prayer. In fact, you will only be able to do very little if you are a man that is given to prayers. Only husbands who have learnt how to pray on their knees will not faint when troubles show up in their sheepfold. You must understand that the challenges of life most often than not do not give advance notice. Hence, you must be spiritually prepared through the weapon of prayer. And this why the Word of God exhorts you to prayer without ceasing because if you don’t, your strength will fail in the day of adversity. The good news is that you can pray for anything and you can fellowship with God anytime. You can pray for the success of the destinies of your wife and children including their health, education, career, marriage, finance, emotions and much more. You can also talk to God about how much you love Him and how you are grateful to Him.

Three things happen when you live a prayerful life as the head of your family. The first is that you are able to build assurance in your heart about the power of God. What this means is that you are not afraid of tomorrow or any unpleasant circumstance that may come up in your sheepfold. Secondly, you build up the strength of your inner man because that is who you really are. The Bible tells us that there is a spirit in man…(Job 32:8). Once your inner man is strong your outward person will also be strong. Thirdly, you become a man of authority, influence and power. Your spoken word becomes a decree after the order of Elijah (Jas.5:17-18). You decree what you desire over your wife and children and you see them manifest before your very eyes. Therefore, you must awake from spiritual laziness and embrace the power of prayers because that is what makes you the good and godly husband.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with the spirit of grace and supplication.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with uncommon boldness so that I can come before you in prayers.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, save me from pride and a haughty spirit.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am committed to cultivate and live by the attitude of prayer and intercession because that is what generates the power and stability I need to reign and rule in my sheepfold as the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
