Moreover, the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying, thus saith the Lord the maker thereof, the Lord that formed it, to establish it, the Lord is his name. Call unto me and I will answer thee and show the great and mighty things which thou knowest not. (Jeremiah 33:1-3)
The most potent weapon that the godly husbandman has ignored in the pursuit of his assignment as the pastor, priest and prophet over his wife and children is prayer. Most husbandmen will complain instead of pray about the issues they are having with their sheep. A lot more husbands believe that they can handle their sheep without the help of God through the Person of the Holy Spirit. But if any husbandman can take advantage of the power of an effective prayer life, he can turn around the unhappy circumstances in and around his sheepfold.
But what is prayer and what happens when you pray? Prayer is having a positive conversation with someone higher than you and who has the answer. So, between you and God, who is higher? The answer is God. And because God instituted the marriage relationship, He has the road map in His hands. He also has the answers to all the questions you want to ask about you and your sheep. So, communicating with Him is the wisest thing to do. This is why, the Scripture admonishes you to call unto God because He has the answers. However, you must trust Him that He has the answers and He will help you. He that must come to Him must first believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him (Heb.11:6).
After you have trusted God, there are two ways God answers your petition. The first is that He shows you one or a combination of these. He tells you what to do, what to say, how to say it and when to say it. So, you must learn to listen to the small still voice on your inside. Let me add here that the direction of the Holy Spirit may not be convenient neither will it sound popular. But if you are foolish to follow Him, He will make you great. The second is that He intervenes by delivering your wife and children from those ungodly habits. When the disciples of Jesus were with Him in a boat sailing to the other side, a strong wind blew against the ship. The disciples were afraid, in this instance, Jesus did not tell them what to do. He stepped into the situation and spoke to the wind directly. And there was a great calm. However, you must develop a strong fellowship with God just as a child would with his or her father. So that the more you know Him, the clearer you can recognize His voice and how He works. Don’t give up on your sheep. Engage the power of prevailing prayer and watch a complete turnaround in the lives of wife and children.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me hearing ears and seeing eyes to know how to handle my sheep.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to be quick in obeying Your instructions as I lead my sheep.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, help my unbelief and empower me to have unwavering faith in You.
