Main Scripture: Lk.6:38
More Scriptures: Gen.8:22, Gen.18:19, Heb.11:2
Yesterday, by the help of our Teacher, the Holy Spirit, we were taught as husbands that the same measure we mete out to our flock is the same measure that we receive from them and even much more. But you may want to know why I must keep giving when my flock do not respond in the same measure that I give? First, it is your covenant demand to sow seeds. For instance, God commanded you to love your wife as Christ has loved the church and gave Himself for it (Eph.5:25). And if you look at 1Cor. 13, you will discover the content of love that Christ wants you to give to your wife. This includes kindness, patience, thinking good and not evil about her, refusing to be happy when she fails and much more (1Cor.13:4-8). The word of God also commands you to treat her according to the knowledge of who she is by understanding her strength and weakness (1Pet.3:7). All these virtues are given to your wife and are conveyed in words and in our actions.
Also, the word of God commands you to nurture your children in the way and admonition of the Lord (Deut.6:4-10, Eph.6:4). This comes in the form of seeds-your conversation, your attitude, and your responses and reactions. Secondly, evil will always bow to good because godly seeds have the power to subdue every form of ungodliness. The word of God says, if thy righteousness be full then will the Lord avenge for you. God will step into your case if you are faithful to the end. Thirdly, it is because it is only those who endure to the end that are rewarded. No runner wins the race in the middle of the competition. He or she must run to the end to qualify for a medal. The Word of God says that he that endures to the end shall be saved. You must not give to your flock today and deny them tomorrow. You must understand that every seed when planted and watered has the capacity to reproduce itself in the lives of the recipients. Don’t love your flock today and hate them tomorrow. Don’t be kind to them today and wish them evil tomorrow. However, you need a large dose of faith in God and His word to receive the good measure. Faith is not the absence of trials; it is the triumph over trials. You may get to a point when your wife and children’s attitude will be threatening all the good works you have been doing for them. You must not allow their misbehavior to distract you and put doubts in your heart. Rather, during this trial period, you increase your faith in the ability of God to transform your flock. In Heb.11:2, the Scripture says, by faith the elders obtained good report. Keep trusting in God. Keep hoping in Him, for in due time you will reap the harvest of your service to your sheep and your sheepfold.
