Main Scriptures: 1Tim.4:6-10
More Scriptures: Jn.14:26, Rom.12:3, Heb.4:12
Exercise daily in God-no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever. You can count on this. (1Timothy 4:6-10 MSG)
God wants every husband to live a disciplined life. He wants you to be disciplined with your spirit, soul and body. And this includes your appetite, desires, and relationships. But you have a part to play in all of these godly plans for your life. This is why the Scripture above is critical to your success as the godly man, husband and father. The word of God says that you exercise daily in God and not just in the things of the world. Just the same way workouts in the gym are profitable to your physical body, it is the same way spiritual exercises are profitable to your spirit and soul. The way your body enjoys firmness and strength when you engage in physical exercises is the same way your spirit man is strengthened to make you walk in ways that are pleasing to God. In Romans chapter 12, the Bible says that we present ourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God……for it is our reasonable service (Roms.12:1-3)
In the gym, there are equipment that you engage in when you exercise. So, also there are some things that you must do that will enhance and make you a disciplined godly man, husband and father to your wife and children and the world around you. The first equipment is that of word study and meditation. You have to study God’s word as a lifestyle because the Word of God provides you the roadmap to a life of godliness, peace, hope, and joy. Everything you would ever wish to know about how to become the good and godly husbandman is contained in the word of God-The Bible. See what God says about His word. The word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged-sword…………(Heb.4:12) And again, it says, The word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path……(Ps.119:105). The path to your glorious heritage as the godly husbandman is inside the word of God. But you must have a complete Bible and be intentional with studying it. However, you need the Person of the Holy Spirit to help you understand the Bible. He is the Interpreter. That is one of His assignments for you but you must seek Him desperately and in faith. God is not here on earth neither is Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husband. The Person with us is the Holy Spirit. Jesus speaking said that He was going to His Father but He was not going to leave us comfortless. He was sending the Holy Spirit. I send the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, He will teach you all things and He will show you things to come (John 14:26).
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be disciplined with my time and help me to invest it in Your word.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a Word Addict and make me delight in the truth.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me hearing ears and seeing eyes to hear what You are saying and what You are showing me from Your word.
FAITH CONFESSION
I align myself with the study of the word of God as a lifestyle and by it I lead my wife and children in Jesus Name. Amen.
