Main Scriptures: Rom.12:20-21
More Scriptures: Eph.6:4, Ezk.2:2, Lk.10:19
I must admit that so many husbands have struggles they are confronted with daily. Some struggle to love their wives as Christ has loved the church. Others struggle to mentor their children as God has commanded (Eph.6:4, Deut.6:5-7). Another set struggle with unhealthy habits and lifestyles-adultery, drunkenness, anger, bitterness, envy, unforgiveness, covetousness, greed, guilt of past sins, and much more. And these struggles continue to hinder the good shepherd from functioning maximally as God had planned.
As the head of your family, you must not settle for these limitations or barriers. You must not resign yourself to fate and think that there is nothing that you can do about it. God does not intend that you remain with the struggles. He wants you to overcome them. He has given your authority to overcome these struggles. In Lk.10:19, the Scripture says, I have given you authority to trample upon snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemies. God wants you to live above these struggles. He wants you to demonstrate the love of Christ to your wife. He wants you to bring up your children in the way and admonition of the Lord. He doesn’t want you to hate them or be bitter towards them. It may be true that there is enough reason to be bitter towards your wife and children, but you cannot allow their attitude to influence you negatively. In Rom.12, the word of God says, therefore, if thine enemy hunger, feed him, if he thirsts, give him drink, for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good (Rom.12:20-21).
You may want to ask how I can overcome the struggles in my life. First, you must allow the consciousness of the Scriptures to gain a foothold in your spirit. Every word of God you read in Scripture has the Spirit of God behind it. For the Spirit enter into me when the Lord spake unto me (Ezk.2:2). So, as you live in the consciousness of the truth that you have authority over all, you will be bold to move ahead and overcome the struggles. Second, you must keep your prayer altar burning. You do this by intensifying your prayer life. You also add fasting to it. Overcoming these struggles is a kind of battle and only a combination of effectual prayer and fasting can guarantee you victory. For this kind goeth not forth except by prayer and fasting (Mk.9:29). Your headship confers on you the opportunity to demonstrate the powerfulness of God. You must make it count in your life and the lives of your wife and children.
