BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Matthew 5:9

More Scriptures: Gal.5:22, Col.4:5-6, Jas.1:19-20

The verse of Scripture in Matthew chapter 5 and verse 9 is an admonition to you the shepherd, pastor, prophet, and priest- the husbandman because if you decree peace in your sheepfold, no devil can cause war. You know why? Because, you have power with God.

The will of God for you as the head of your family and shepherd over your wife and children is to live a life of righteousness. And one of the virtues of righteousness is to make and live in peace with your wife and children. Jesus Christ the examples of how husbands are expected to behave demonstrated the attitude of a peacemaker. In verse 9 of Matthew Chapter 5, the Scriptures say blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God. One of your identity as the head of the family is peacefulness.

Now, what does it mean to be a peacemaker? It means that as the head of the family, you must ensure that peace reigns in your home by ensuring that your conduct towards your wife and children will not aggrieved them. For you as the head of the family to openly insult your wife or try to embarrass your wife or children before others, then know that you are courting war at home. In Gal.5:22, one of the fruits of the Spirit is peace. If you deny your wife your body, you are laying a foundation of war at home. If you refuse to provide for the financial and material needs of your wife and children, you will not find peace at home. If you decide to cheat on your wife by engaging in adulterous relationships, expect fire and brimstone at home. So, for you to create an atmosphere of peace at home, you must lead a peaceable life. Your actions, works and words must be towards peace.

However, for you to be a peacemaker, you need the help of the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit that can empower you to live out His fruits. This is why in Jas.1:19-20, the Word of God admonishes us to quick hear and slow to speak. What this means is that as the leader of your family, you should not respond to everything that your wife says. Listen to all she has to say but don’t react to everything. A lot of the times, when she says things that are untoward, you must not be quick to respond. A great man of God once said that it takes two to fight. It would require you and your wife to scatter the peace in your home. This explains why our example of a good and godly husband, Jesus Christ,  says that if they come to take your cloak give them your dress. When you allow to peace to reign in your home as the head of the family, God is pleased with you because you are living out His lifestyle before your wife and children.

SPIRITUAL EXRCISE

  • Father, by Your Spirit, rekindle my prayer altar and make me burn for You in truth.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, make me an instrument and ambassador of peace in my home.
  • Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, deliver me from the force of bitterness.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am a man of honour and peace, and I will live this lifestyle because I am a good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus matchless name. Amen.
