Main Scriptures: 2Cor.5:16-18
More Scriptures: Am.6:1, 1Tim.6:4, Hab.2:5
Let me begin by establishing three aspects of our engagement as heads of our families. The first is to be for Christ-ACTIVITY. The second is to be with Christ-ASSOCIATION. And the third is to be in Christ-RELATIONSHIP. So, as the head of the family and shepherd over the sheep of God in your custody, it is not enough to be active in your local church and be seen to identify with the works of Jesus Christ. What is much more important is to BE IN CHRIST-the quality of your relationship with JESUS CHRIST, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husband.
As the head of the family, you are a spirit with a soul and living in a body. This means that you are essentially a spirit man. This is why today’s topic is important for you as the spiritual head of the family. In our main Scriptures today, the Word of God says, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things have passed away, behold all things have become new (2Cor.5:17). As the leader in your home, it is fundamental for you to have a deep and quality relationship with Jesus, if you want to make the most of your role as the godly man, husband and father and secure the destiny and future of your wife and children. When you are in Christ Jesus, all things become new- new experience of the power of God to heal and restore your wife and children in the fear of God, new revelation of the secrets of God to make you triumph as the head of the family, new godly attitudes and much more. The greatest mistake you will make is to live your life without Jesus Christ. Working to get the good things of life is not bad in itself. It is when you leave Jesus out of your plan and become obsessed with the things of life that it becomes a burden. You are of all men miserable if that is the kind of life you want to live.
But what does it mean for you to be in Christ as a godly husband? It means allow the life of Christ to take preeminence over your affairs. It also means you have allowed Him to increase while you decrease. However, for you to remain in Christ, you must fight the spirit of spiritual complacency. In Amos 6:1, the Scriptures say that woe unto them that are at ease in Zion (Amos 6:1). Don’t get to a point in your life as the head of the family where you think you have arrived. Another vice that you must fight to remain in Christ is the seed of ego and pride (1Tim.6:4, Hab.2:5). It is a common saying among husbands that they know it all and are not responsible to anybody. This is a lie from the devil. In Hab.2:5, the Word of God says that they transgressed because they know nothing…(Heb.2:5). There is still much to know about your position as the head of the family, your wife and your children. You must endeavour to sustain the relationship that you have with Jesus Christ because that is your greatest heritage as a godly husband.
