IN HIM YOU LIVE (2)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: John.15:7-8

More Scriptures: Gal.5:21-22, 2 Cor.7:1, Rom.12:21

Yesterday, the Holy Spirit taught husbands to understand the blessedness of being in Christ. We understand that as heads of our sheepfold, our personal relationship and not activity is what influences how we think, act and respond to our sheep and the world around us. Today, I want to share with us more of the benefits of being in Christ.

When you are in Jesus as the head of your family, Jesus Christ empowers you to behave and act like He would to your wife and children (Jn.15:7-8). The reason why you find it very difficult to do the will of God and conduct yourself like Him is because you have not allowed Jesus to gain root in your heart. For you to be in Him, you must be willing and ready to be completely sold out to Him and all His commandments.  Secondly, when you allow Him to be the basis of your existence, He empowers you to bear spiritual fruits of gentleness, faithfulness, kindness and patience towards your wife and children and other people (Gal.5:21-22). Thirdly, Jesus Christ helps you to become a light and a shining example in the market places.

A lot of husbands who claim to be born again Christian have no personal testimonies of good works and good words in their homes, at their places of work or among their business associates. They appear like light at home but are truly dark outside. It is your depth with Jesus Christ that helps you to gain height over the filthiness of the spirit. In 2Cor.7:1, the Scriptures say that there is the filthiness of the flesh and of the spirit (2Cor.7:1).

As the head of the family, you may have overcome adultery, wife battery, drinking of alcohol and stealing, and even lying. That is victory over the filthiness of the flesh. But have you overcome the filthiness of the spirit, which includes bitterness, anger, pride, envy and much more? Only your adoption in Christ can guarantee you absolute freedom. In Rom.12:21, it says overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21). You cannot overcome the obvious weakness or failures of your wife and children if you are not in Christ. If you are not in Him, then you are being ruled by your flesh. And when that happens, you may not tolerate their inadequacies or even show mercy and kindness towards them. Infact, you may want to take revenge on your wife and children. And if this continues you ultimately lose them to sin, the world, and the devil.

Always remember that you are the representative of Jesus Christ to your wife and children. You are the true expression of His image in words and in deeds. It is His will that you live His life for your sheep and the world.

SPIRITUAL EXRCISE

  • Father, by Your Spirit, baptize me with a new zeal to love You with the whole of my life
  • Father, by Your Spirit, break me and increase in my life and take preeminence over all my decisions
  • Father, by the power in the name of Jesus, deliver me from the power of self and pride.

FATH CONFESSION

I live for Jesus day after day because that is what I need to become a good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
