ATTITUDE OF THE GODLY HUSBAND

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 1Thess. 5:14

More Scriptures: 1Cor.14:25, Matt.5:16, Matt.936

Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men (1Thess.5:14). From the above Scriptures, four responses were mentioned towards four categories of people. The four words are warn, comfort, support and patience. As you lead your wife and children, you will most likely find them manifesting one or all of these tendencies mentioned in our main text. That is, they could be unruly, feebleminded, weak or impatient. So, the question would be, how do you respond to them when they manifest these behaviours?

The word of God has provided for you the type of responses. Remember that as the representative of Christ in your home (Matt.5:16), your attitude and the way you handle issues that concern you and your wife and children matters to God. In 1Cor.14:25, the Scriptures say that ….and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that GOD IS IN YOU OF A TRUTH. So you can see that God is in you. Jesus Christ, the perfect example of a good and godly husband, gave you a blueprint on how to handle your wife and children at varying circumstances through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

To an unruly wife and children, the Word of God says warn them in the love of Christ. He didn’t tell you to assault them emotionally or beat them up physically. He didn’t also say that you should mentally hurt them by constantly reminding them of their failures and weakness. Do you have a feeble-minded wife or children? The Word of Jesus says comfort them. This means that you identify with them in the areas where they are hurting. And you can do this by praying for them, massaging the places that hurt them, encouraging and motivating them. It is enough to know that your wife and children are feeble or hurting. It is much more important that you show sincere and compassionate concerns to them. And if they are weak, God said, support them. Your wife and children may be spiritually and physically weak. That is not the best time for you to abandon them to carry the burden alone. Support them in the best possible way that you can through the help of the Holy Spirit. Finally, to all men, be patient with them. You must be patient with your wife and children and all men. They may not be where you want them to be or are doing what you expect them to do. Do not give up on them. Don’t throw them away. You are everything that your wife and children desire. Make your life count for them as a good and godly husband.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, empower me by Your Spirit, to live a spiritual life and be useful to my wife and children.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, help me to appreciate the spiritual origin of my office as the head of the family.
  • Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus, deliver me from the power of carnality and self.

 FAITH CONFESSION

I am committed to having the right attitude toward my wife, children and to all men because I am a good and godly husband in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
