Main Scripture: 2 Corinthians 10:11-13

Any husband who compares his wife with any other woman, be it his mother or sister is foolish. Your wife is not your mother. She is created uniquely and differently from your mother or any other woman for that matter. As the head of the family and spiritual leader over your home, it is god-like to see and treat your wife and children in their uniqueness. This is why in 2Cor.10:12, the Scriptures say for we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves by themselves, and COMPARING THEMSELVES AMONG THEMSELVES, ARE NOT WISE. It is foolishness to compare the way your wife cooks with the way your mother cooks or any other aspect of womanhood. It is unwise for you to openly compare your children with the children of other families. Comparism is satanic. No matter how inadequate your wife and children may appear, you can make them better through the wisdom of God. As the head of the family, you are called by God into greater responsibilities.
But what is the risk if I compare my wife and children with others? It destroys their self-confidence. For instance, if you keep telling your wife that the food she cooks for you is not as tasty and delicious as the ones your mother cooks, she may be discouraged and unappreciated. On the other hand, if you keep encouraging her by your words and works, she will grow in confidence and she will be challenged to be a better wife to you. Also, if you keep telling your child that he or she is not as good as the kids of other families perhaps in attitude and academics, you will eventually push him or her into depression. And if the situation is not remedied on time, your child may commit suicide. It is dangerous and unwise to compare your flock with others. However, for you to get the best out of your wife and children, you must be their coach and mentor. You have to be their encourager and cheerleader. Deliberately look for opportunities and resource materials that will help them to be the best. And most importantly and above all, intercede for them earnestly until the nature of Jesus Christ is formed in them. Remember that one of the attributes of Christ is excellence. So, make it happen in the lives of your wife and children.
