BE A TEACHER TO YOUR SHEEP (2)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Matthew 11:28-30

More Scriptures: Jn.13:15, Phil.2:5, Zech.9:9

Yesterday, we learnt that our principal responsibility as husbands and heads of our families is to teach our flock-wife and children the ways and instructions of the Lord. And that our greatest strategy to becoming leaders of influence to our sheep is to live by examples.

As the head of the family, you must appreciate that your attitude and character disposition remain the window through which your wife and children can have a glimpse of how to live a life well pleasing to God. My prayer for you is that you will not fail God in leading your wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.

Today, let us look at what it takes to become a good teacher to your wife and children. In Matt.11:29, the Scripture has this to say. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light (Matt.11:29). As a good teacher, you must be willing to learn from others, first and beginning with Jesus Christ, Who is the perfect example of the good and godly husband and also the way, the truth and the life. You must understand that as the spiritual head of the family, you cannot give what you don’t have. You cannot teach your wife and children hospitality if you are not hospitable. You cannot teach them generosity if you are not a giver. You cannot teach them respect for people and authorities if you have not learnt how to respect people. What this means is that learning is good, but practice is better.

A lot of husbands have outstanding knowledge about respect, and all other human psychology and human relations. But in practice, they are a bunch of failure. They know so much but have not practiced what they know. Now that you know that you must first be taught before you can teach your wife and children, how do I make myself teachable? First, you must be prepared and willing to learn-you must be humble in heart. Secondly, you must study, whether formally or informally. Thirdly, you must engage the power of effective prayer to enforce the things that you have learnt. It is when you combine these spiritual demands that you can effectively be like Jesus Christ., Who taught those following Him. And now that you have been made a shepherd over your wife and children, it is important that you live up to your responsibilities as a good and godly teacher. Aren’t you glad you are a husband? I am sure, you are! Please, make your life count to your wife and children.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by the prevailing power in the blood of Jesus Christ, give me a teachable heart.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, baptize me with the spirit of faith and obedience to Your instructions.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with a deeper understanding of Your ways and help me to be a good and godly example to my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am built up in Jesus and I teach my wife and children the ways of the Lord Jesus Christ because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
