Don’t hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father. (Matt.5:16) TLB.
Yesterday, we understood from Scriptures that as husbandmen and shepherds over our sheep, whatever resources we have belongs to God. We are only stewards and not owners and to that extent we must seek the will of God concerning the material blessings in our possession. Otherwise, we will waste the resources and act foolishly. Today, I want to explain how you can become a financial light to the world so that the world can glorify God. As the head of your family and the spiritual leader over your wife and children, you may have heard this saying, “do as I say and not as I do”. I want to tell you that this saying is not only untrue, it is also a deception of the devil to take every husband away from the sweet fellowship with God. Your life must be an example to your wife and children. It is very important for you to know that as a husband, you are a pastor and a priest. Your financial conduct must speak louder and clearer than your words. Jesus speaking said, by their fruits, you shall know them (Matt.7:16). You cannot continue to think that you have no boundaries because you are the head. God has set boundaries for you and those boundaries must reflect what you say, what you do, where you go and who you keep as friends.
Genesis 2 gives us a graphic example of boundaries created for the husband. And the Lord God took the man and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, OF EVERY TREE OF THE GARDEN THOU MAYEST FREELY EAT, BUT OF THE TREE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL, THOU SHALT NOT EAT OF IT, FOR IN THE DAY THAT THOU EATEST THEREOF, THOU SHALT SURELY DIE (Gen.2:15-17). You will discover that as much as the husband was made in the likeness and image of God, he was banned from eating the forbidden fruit. As the mirror through which your flock sees the nature of Christ, you must lead and live by example. But for you to live by example and not by exceptions, you must make Jesus Christ the Lord over your life. This means handing over all that you have and will ever have to Him in complete obedience. Secondly, you must daily ask the Lord Jesus to pour out fresh grace upon your life. It is the grace of God that provides you the platform to do the right things. God’s grace is the totality of His help. In my distress, I cried unto the Lord and He heard me (Ps.120:1). As you become the good and godly example to your flock and as well as those outside, your life becomes a reference to other husbands and leaders and your seed (children) shall be thoroughly blessed of God (Is.61:9).
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me an example of a prudent resource manager to my wife and children and the world.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with wisdom and save me from careless living.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to dominate the desires of the flesh.
FAITH CONFESSION
I vow to be prudent with the resources that God has blessed me with and to be a blessing to humanity because that is what makes me the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus Name. Amen.
