TRUST BY YOUR WORKS

Our main Scripture for today’s teaching records the encounter Jesus Christ had with His disciples. Notwithstanding that He had been around for a while and they have had seen the power of God manifested through Him, some of them still found it very difficult to believe Him. For instance, Thomas, one of the disciples of Jesus Christ, even after Jesus’s death and resurrection, did not believe He was Jesus crucified. He only believed Jesus after He showed him proofs of the piercings in His palms. So, don’t be surprised if your wife or children do not believe what you say in the first instance.

But how did Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, responded to those who had doubts about His capabilities? Did He fight them? The answer was and is still no. Rather, He used the power of works. The word of God in John chapter 14:11 has this to say about the wisdom key Jesus deployed to win the trust of His sheep. He said, “believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me, or else believe me for the VERY WORKS SAKE” Jn.14:11.  Note a very significant statement that Jesus made. He said “I have works to prove that I can be trusted”, even if you don’t believe that I am in God. This is what God expects of you to do as the head of the family. As the spiritual authority and leader in your home, your works should speak for you much more than anything else. You must have enough positive proofs for your wife and children to see if you want them to believe you. If Jesus’s disciples could not believe Him except for the works that He did, then, you, His representative must not think of anything less.

God sent you to your wife and children so that they can experience the God kind of life through you. Why, you may want to ask? Principally, because you are the HEAD PRIEST. You have complained that your wife and children doubt you when you speak or pray on any matter. Do you have testimonies of answered prayers? Do you share those testimonies with them? These are the questions that should bother you as the leader of your home. I recall a statement made by my father in the faith, Bishop Dr. David O. Oyedepo some time ago. He said if a man tells you that he will give clothes, you must check what he is putting on, because a man cannot give what he doesn’t have. Do you want your wife and children to trust you? Then produce your works. You must understand that trust is earned and not conferred. God’s word says by faith the elders obtained good report (Heb.11:1-33). You can only obtain good reports from your wife and children by the good works they have in you, with you and through you. That is your godly heritage as the godly man, husband and father.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, by Your Spirit, empower me to produce outstanding results and let it bring glory to Your name.
• Father, by Your Spirit, let my works speak loudest in the lives of my wife and children.
• Father, by Your Spirit, make the works of my life earn the trust of my wife and children.

I am a man of outstanding results because I am filled with the power of God to be the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
